Michelle McCoy: Butterfly Layout  – made with NEW Scrapbook MAX! 2.0

You may have already heard the great news – we are thrilled to announce the release of a brand new, improved and enhanced version of Scrapbook MAX! – NEW! Scrapbook MAX! 2.0! we’ve kept the fast, fun, easy workflow of version 1, but have added in a whole lot more dazzle for your pages!

You’ll be amazed at all of the amazing artistic and creative things you can do with Scrapbook MAX! 2.0.  Bend, curve and squish your text or flow it along a curve; colorize embies and photos to your exact specifications; add outlines and patterned fills to text;enjoy complete control over the blur, distance, angle and even color of your shadows – and SO MUCH MORE! (Read our HUGE Feature List here!) PLUS – it’s all spruced up with a super fast graphics engine, awesome output quality, and more to make your scrapbooks works of art.

Scrapbook MAX! 2.0 is already a hit! In this issue of The Groove, we feature layouts from our members made with the new software and using some of the great new features. we’ve also included some handy mini-tutorial screenshots to help you get acquainted with the program.

We also have a fun new challenge and freebie by Michelle McCoy that gives YOU a chance to win a copy of the new software (see below for details!). Read on to get inspired!

Get Creative With Your Text!

In new Scrapbook MAX! 2.0, you can get creative with your text: add outlines, fill your text with patterns, images and gradients, bend, curve and distort your captions, squish and stretch your characters, and more! Below are a couple of creative examples of what you can now achieve with text in Scrapbook MAX! 2.0 – remember, what you see below are not “word art” embellishments; it’s actual typed text that you can now easily and artistically manipulate to get the results you want!

Mini-Tutorial #1: Step-By-Step

To Creative Text!

Below is a simple step-by-step mini Scrapbook MAX! 2.0 tutorial demonstrating how to change a plain caption into an outlined text filled with a pattern, and curved and bent into a fun shape to liven up a layout.  HINT: You can click on the screenshot images to enlarge them and get a closer look.

Remember – this is just the beginning of what you can do with text in Scrapbook MAX! 2.0! The best way to learn is to play around – you’ll be amazed at your creative possibilities!

groove-new-features-006-page-7.jpg

Step 1: Add caption text to your page. Double-click on the text to call up its Properties box.

Step 2: Set the Style of text to Image/Pattern, and choose Select Image to browse to any image on your system that you wish to use as the fill for your text.

groove-new-features-002-page-3.jpg

Browse for an image on your system – we chose an orange paper scrap from the Cloth category:

my-scrapbook-003-page-4.jpg

We also chose to use the “Ridiculous” font – one of the fun new creative fonts included free with your software. Select a new font directly from the Properties box:

my-scrapbook-004-page-5.jpg

Step 3: Click on the Advanced tab for more options.

groove-new-features-003-page-5.jpg

Step 4: On the Advanced tab, you can check the Show Outline box to add an outline to your text. You can then pick the color for your outline from the color selection box, and adjust the thickness of your outline with the slider.

groove-new-features-004-page-4.jpg

Step 5: We added our caption text to the page and right-clicked on it. From the drop-down menu that appears, we selected “Bendable”. Now we can drag and pull the dots that appear on the lines above and below our text to shape it into fun patterns. We can even right-click along those lines to add more bend points for more possibilities!

groove-new-features-005-page-6.jpg

my-scrapbook-005-page-6.jpg

Dragging the bend points to get our text “into shape”!

Wasn’t that easy? And aren’t the results amazing!

Check out our free trial on www.scrapbookmax.com and see what you can do! Or, better yet, buy the full version today and save 20% – PLUS get a free bonus mega expansion pack collection, “Life Is Beautiful” – full of enhanced templates and thousands of pieces of content!

Colorize and Tint – A Rainbow

of Possibilities!

You’ve never been able to adjust the tint and colorize with such precision and ease! Make all of your photos and embies color-perfect with our easy new tools that put all the control in your hands. On the Advanced tab on the Properties box for embies and photos, simply select the Adjust Color box, and use the sliders to alter Hue, Saturation, and Lightness – watch the adjustments as they happen so you can get the exact results you want!

Plus, anytime you are shown a color selection box in Scrapbook MAX! 2.0, choose More Colors to enable an eye-dropper color picker. Simply move the eye-dropper onto a color you love anywhere on your layout, and select it to colorize your object.
How cool is that!

omajo-colorizing-embies.jpg

Omajo’s Rock And Roll Waltz Layout- embies have been colorized using Scrapbook MAX! 2.0’s new color/tint feature!

Mini-Tutorial #2:

 Colorize An Embellishment!

We made this layout and love it  – but think that a blue-toned froggie would be a better match for this page. That’s no problem with Scrapbook MAX! 2.0. HINT: You can click on the screenshot images to enlarge them and get a closer look.

groove-new-features-007-page-8.jpg

Step 1: Double-click on the froggie embellishment to call up its Properties.

Step 2: Click on the Advanced tab.

Step 3: On the Advanced tab, select the Adjust color box. Then slide the Hue, Saturation and Lightness slider bars until the color is the one you want. You’ll see the changes occur in “real time” as you slide the bars.
We created the perfect denim blue for our frog with a couple of simple slider adjustments.

 groove-new-features-009-page-10.jpg

Step 4: Add the colorized embie to your page and voila!

groove-new-features-008-page-9.jpg

Easy as 1-2-3! And remember, you can adjust the color of photos too with Scrapbook MAX! 2.0!

NEW in Scrapbook MAX 2.0:

Color Picker “Eye-Dropper” Tool!

HINT: You can click on the screenshot images to enlarge them and get a closer look.

Here’s another colorizing tool in new Scrapbook MAX! 2.0. Whenever you are presented with a color selection box like this:

 my-scrapbook-001-page-2.jpg

you can use activate the eye-dropper tool to select a color from anywhere on your page as the color you use to colorize your object! (Note: in this example, we’re working with the color selector box that appears on the Caption Properties Box, but you’ll find the color selector box in other places, too!)

Simply click the arrow on the color box, and choose More Colors:

 my-scrapbook-000-page-1.jpg

Then, move your mouse to select a color from your page as shown here (we’re selecting the pink shade of the stitched apple embellishment):

groove-new-features-012-page-13.jpg

Click your mouse and the eye-dropper grabs this color to colorize your object!

groove-new-features-013-page-14.jpg

In this example, we’ve colorized our text with the eye-dropper so that it coordinates exactly with the stitched apple embellishment – how cool is that?

Here is what I want you to do…

3.)  You can ONLY use items from the kit provided. But you MAY change the color of anything you use and you may make other embellishments out of the backgrounds as well…

 Shape UP!

You’ve always been able to have fun with photoshapes in Scrapbook MAX!  – but now, in Scrapbook MAX! 2.0 there’s another option: INVERT your shape! So, instead of cutting around the perimeter of your photo or scrap, you can “cut out” the interior of it (like the cookie dough that’s left on the counter after you’ve cut out the cookie!). This gives you another creative way to design layouts! Check out what Wendy and Val have done with inverted shapes below. Following that, we show you how easy it is with a mini tutorial!

wendy-gibson-schooldays09-on-sbm-v2.jpg

Booster Pack Store Designer Wendy Gibson uses an inverted shape  to jazz up her layout.  She used her Applelicious and School Days kits for the great elements – find them in her section of the store here.

valerie-elaine-invert-shape-feature.jpg

Valerie Elanie made this gorgeous layout making use of the invert shape feature.

Mini-Tutorial #3: Invert a Shape!

Getting creative doesn’t get any easier than this! Using Scrapbook MAX! 2.0, invert your photoshapes for endless creative possibilities! HINT: You can click on the screenshot images to enlarge them and get a closer look.

Step 1: Double-click on your photo or embellishment to call up it’s Properties. Choose Custom Shape, and then the Select button to find the shape you want to add.

my-scrapbook-002-page-3.jpg

We added a “galaxy” type shape to a blue paper scrap:

groove-new-features-001-page-2.jpg

Step 2: To invert the shape – meaning that we’ll be cutting the shape OUT of the paper scrap instead of around it – simply check the Invert Shape box (just below the Custom Shape box). And you’re done!

winnie49-friends.jpg

A lovely friendship layout by Winnie49

 In The Groove

From the beloved book “Anne of Green Gables”, we learn the delicious phrase “Kindred Spirits”. What is a kindred spirit? A friend, certainly, but more than that. It’s a bond, an understanding, a sense of “I’ve always known you!” between two people that has always been there, somehow, even before they had ever met!

This month in The Groove, we feature layouts that pay tribute to special friendships. And from the looks of the photos in these layouts and the love with which they were made, surely these are all “Kindred Spirit” layouts!

Get inspired to scrap a layout for your kindred spirit. Wouldn’t this make a wonderful gift to send as a surprise email, or to print out and frame?

Below, you’ll also find a Scrapper Profile, and a freebie and challenge from Scrapbook MAX! Booster Pack Store designer Crystal Longbrake. This challenge has an extra twist, so be sure to be sure to get the details!

My Family, My Friends

Friends are a blessing in life. So it’s a double blessing when members of our own family are also our dear friends! We love how these two layouts celebrate the joy of friendship and family. Scrappyfrog’s “Cousins” layout captures a magical day together. Tackettup’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” layout is full of joy, silliness, and laughter – just what a great family friendship should be brimming with!

Through Thick and Thin

These layouts are the perfect “bookends” for the things we experience together as friends. The first layout, by LindaPete, recalls a shared moment of sophistication, elegance, and celebration, all in gorgeous pastel tones. The second layout by Wickel, paints in vibrant blues and  breathless words, the adventure, abandon and spirit that also comes with friendship. Through thick and thin, friends are with us always!

Crystal Longbrake

Meet Crystal Longbrake, a.k.a. DigiScrapalicious, a friendly forum member, and Scrapbook MAX! Booster Pack Store designer. Get to know more about Crystal below, and check out some of her favorite layouts!

Q-  Tell us one thing about yourself that others are often surprised to learn.
Hmm…my life is an open book, I’m not mysterious and am pretty open and approachable so I don’t think there’s much that would surprise anyone…does that mean I’m boring? hehehe

Q- What made you interested in digital scrapbooking?
I was pregnant with my second child and I realized I still didn’t have my first child’s baby book done (he was seven at the time). I knew I needed to find a quicker more economical way to do it since the traditional way wasn’t cutting it.

Q- Where do you get your layout ideas?
I digiscrap like I paperscrapped. I love the traditional layouts where the pictures are the main focus.

Q- What’s your favorite color (in general)? How about to scrap with?
My favorite color is brown. It’s become a joke with my friends, every time I buy something in a different color, they’re all like “what it didn’t come in brown?”. I scrap with the colors from my pictures, I like the scraps to compliment the event I’m trying to document.

Q- Tell us about your favorite feature of Scrapbook MAX!.
My favorite feature has got to be the movies. I love to share my layouts with others using this.

Editors’ Tip: To publish your scrapbook as a movie, in Scrapbook MAX!, go to File> Publish To> Movie

Q- What tip would you share with a newbie to Scrapbook MAX!?
If you see a template you like but want to use different papers or colors that’s ok. Open the template and switch out each embellishment and paper scrap to your liking. It’s an easy way to do a quick layout.

Q- What’s the subject of the kit that you are working on right now?
It’s called “No Sleep for Braden” and it’s a boy’s pajama kit. It all started with my son playing “No Sleep Til Brooklyn” on Guitar Hero during a sleepover and kind of spiraled from there.

Q- How would you describe your scrapbooking style?
My scrapbooking style is simple clean and neat. I like my pages to tell a story and I try to include some journaling.

Q- Who do you admire most? Why?I admire my Mom the most. She’s a trooper and one of the strongest women I know.

Here are some of Crystal’s favorite layouts!

Friends For Life!

Not only are the layouts themselves absolutely gorgeous, but just look at the smiles on these ladies’ faces – sheer joy of being together! Pickngrin’s fresh, whimsical elements are the perfect backdrop for the photos of these lovely friends. And scrappyaggie48’s neutral-toned, elegant design sets off the sparkling grins worn by these two beautiful ladies.

The Groove Newsletter January 2009

winnie-black-dress

The Little Black Dress  – layout by Winnie W.

In The Groove

Happy 2009 from The Groove!

New Year’s conjures up glamor and elegance, cocktail dresses and champagne toasts.  We loved how Winnie’s layout (above) captured the magic and sparkle of New Year’s.

Now okay, okay – some of us tend to ring in the new year at home snuggled up on the couch watching movies rather than dressed to the nines (but having a great time, anyway!)! So although New Year’s may not always be glamorous, and though life is rarely all “black and white”, that’s our theme for the month – and what could be more stunning than the contrast of black and white?

We hope that you enjoy the various striking black and white layouts we’re showcasing from Scrapbook MAX! members. We think they’re totally creative and inspiring for new year scrapping!Below, you’ll also find a fun Scrapper Profile, and a lovely freebie and challenge from Booster Pack Store Designer Carena Scott.

Enjoy 2009!
 – from your friends at Scrapbook MAX! and The Groove

Staying In The Shade

These two eye-catching layouts show us just how lovely sticking to all black and white (and maybe a touch of grey!) can be! Mary’s lovely photo is shown off with simple black and white touches. Michelle’s self-portrait sketch comes into focus with muted shades as a frame. Gorgeous!

Pass the Punch!

Black and white photos can also be set off by color, delivering a creative “punch”. Notice how your eye takes in the starker black and white photos first, and then moves on to absorb the colored background and elements (at least, that’s how these layouts spoke to us!). Linda shows us how black and white winterscapes can be jazzed up with color, while Pickngrin works a summer theme with just as much success. Lovely!

 Susie

Susie (twpclerk)

Meet Susie (a.k.a. twpclerk) a fabulous Scrapbook MAX! forum contributor, who you will also find to be very adventurous (just started kayaking!), humorous, and kind! Get to know a bit more about Susie below…
Q- If we asked your friends to describe you, what would they say?
A- That I am absolutely goofy, funny, straight laced, loyal and caring.
Q- How did you get involved with digital scrapbooking?
A- I actually found Scrapbook MAX! at a flea market, the lady had a table set up of her work and had the SBM program and I started from there.

Q- Do you have any “scrapbooking resolutions” for the New Year? (any particular project you plan to get started on, or a new skill you want to learn?)
A- I would like to get into the whole designing aspect. Right now all I do is make layouts; I would love to learn how to create embellishments, papers, etc.
Q-Besides scrapbooking, what do you do for fun?
A- I collect roosters for my kitchen and snowmen for all over the house!!  My husband Ed and I started kayaking this summer.
Q- Who are the most special people in your life. Why?
A- My beautiful family, my husband of almost 33 years, our son and his wife and our daughter and her husband. I have really been blessed by God far greater than I ever thought possible. They are everything to me.
Q- Where do you find inspiration for your layouts?
A- I guess I would have to say the challenges. Being new to all this, they really help me explore the many different aspects of digital scrapping – and of course my family are the subjects of most of my layouts.
Q- What’s your next scrapbook project?
A- It’s the holidays – probably will work on Christmas 2008 layouts.
Q- If you could be a celebrity for one day, who would you be and why?
A- Angelina Jolie – so I could be married to Brad Pitt and be friends with George Clooney!! LOL.

Here are a few of Susie’s favorite layouts!

Dreaming of a “Black and White” Christmas!

We loved these two holiday-inspired layouts that also followed our black and white theme. The first layout, by Eye, used color creatively within and outside of the photo to highlight the precious subject (what a cutie!). Carena’s layout has an old time feel, with a black and white photos and elegant touches of rich, festive colors in the surrounding elements. Beautiful!

pkdoll - Vintage Burgundy

A lovely layout by pkdoll that takes us back to the elegant parlours of yesterday. Thanks for sharing!

Vintage Layouts, Family Memories

Below are a few of our favorite family memories vintage layouts. What they have in common, besides special family photos, are soft colors and elegant elements. We love how though the different pieces remind us of the past, they also have a timeless quality. And this reminds us that though the people in our vintage layouts may no longer be with us, the way they touched our hearts go on and on.

Thank you to twpclerk, bluevelvet and scrappymammawgf.

Cherished Collections

It’s really true that a picture is worth a thousand words. And if that’s the case, then a collection of treasured photos can hold a novel’s worth of memories. We loved these two layouts that combined several photos to paint a beautiful story – or a beautiful picture – of special lives lived. Thank you, sacannon and scrappyfrog for sharing these special layouts!

Scrapper Profile

Carena Scott Carena Scott (and lovely daughter!)

Get to know Carena Scott, a Scrapbook MAX! Booster Pack Store Designer (she supplied The Groove’s freebie and challenge this month – see below!), and friendly, knowledgeable, always-ready-to-help presence in our online community. Get to know a bit more about Carena (can you say “line dancing” and “Sean Connery”…?).

Q- Tell us a little about yourself.

A- Well I’m not that interesting really. I’m a single mum to my darling daughter – Caitlyn – whom you all must know quiet well as she is my favourite subject to scrap. I live in New Zealand. I had 17 years in Brisbane, Australia but am happy to now be back in my beautiful home land. When I left school I went into the banking and worked for Westpac Bank for a number of years both here in New Zealand and Australia. I think that is where some of my curiosity comes from in how to work out how something is done. I’ve always had an interest in numbers and analyzing things.

Q- How did you get started on digital scrapbooking?
A-I got interested in scrapbooking thanks to my neighbour. She wanted to put a collage of pictures together of her family and asked me how to do it. At that time I wasn’t scrapping but decided it could be done in “Word” and promptly went about putting my own collage of Caitlyn’s photos together. I somehow put this together and ended up searching scrapbooking on the internet and was totally hooked. My early pages I uploaded started from about the 10th April 2006. So really not that long ago. In about October 2007 I entered a designers competition and from then on there’s been no stopping me. With a lot of determination I find myself here today as a designer here at Scrapbook MAX!.

Q- What are your hobbies/interests (other than digital scrapbooking of course)?
A-Interest and hobbies other than scrapbooking…That’s hard as scrapbooking plays a huge part of my life now…but I used to dance. My interest in dancing started at 5 years when I started tap dancing but soon decided it wasn’t for me and ended up doing Highland dancing. At about 13 I’d had enough of hopping up and down on one foot and turned my interest to Ballroom Dancing. I danced and competed until about 19 years old. It was then we moved to Australia. In Australia I got hooked on Line Dancing – LOL yes, I joined the many thousand that danced with cowboy hats and boots. I loved it and ended up teaching in Brisbane for about 9 years. I gave that up when we moved back to New Zealand 4 years ago. Eventually I think I will go back to Ballroom Dancing when Caitlyn is a little older and hope she will join me in this adventure.

Q- Where do you get your layout ideas?
A- I’m inspired mostly by others layouts. I’m always keeping my eyes open and looking for those special layouts that catch my eye. Then it’s just a case of working out how on earth they did it and applying it to my own style of scrapping. I really enjoy adding lots of elements and clustering but my style has changed a lot since I first started out. Back then my layouts were simple and not many elements used on a single page.

Q-Tell us about the three layouts you are most proud of and why.
A- Layouts I’m most proud of mostly feature my daughter and also kits I’ve created myself.

Q- What do you think makes Scrapbook MAX! so popular?
A- Well that’s easy and been said over and over but I’m going to say it again. The program is so easy to use but at the same time can produce such excellent results with time and practice. Like most things you have to work at it to achieve excellence. I’m sure most of us can look back on our first layouts and then look at more recent layouts and see a huge difference but with practice comes great results in anything. Scrapbook MAX! is an awesome product and I’m still exploring and finding new things so the program also has room to grow with you.

Q- What is your favorite Scrapbook MAX! tip or trick?
A- I love photo overlays over paper as a background to the main image, as seen in one of my favourite layouts called “Romance”. Here is how I did it:

How I Did It:
This is a really easy to do and everyone can do it with Scrapbook MAX!.
Use a lighter plain texture paper for the background. Then choose your photo and place onto page. I changed the opacity slider – slide to just under the “e” in transparent. Youmay need to experiment with this depending on your photo and the paper used. I then changed to Sepia tone (under effects > sepia).
That’s it really. I enlarged the photo to fill most of the page. If you don’t do this you will see the edge of the photo or you will need to hide it by placing elements over it to cover. If anyone has any questions – feel free to message me!

Q- Who is your favorite movie star?
A- Sean Connery – loved him in Medicine Man.

Thanks for sharing, Carena!

Here are some of Carena’s favorite layouts:

Vintage Feel – Contemporary Photos!

We love how “vintage” can also mean great photos you took “yesterday” (and not just “yesteryear”!), combined with a tribute to the past. Wolvsie used elements and a background with an elegant, old-time feel to celebrate the love of her family. Naugle1 made a lovely layout with contemporary elements, but with a family tree that reaches back through the generations. Vintage can mean many things, and we love ’em all!

Retro-tastic!

When we think “vintage” we often think lace, elegance, and gracefully muted tones. But how about the 60s and 70s? – full of flowerpower, stylized graphics, and blocks of color? Knzus is no stranger to creativity – and when she heard the call for vintage layouts, she thought of the era of disco. WE LOVE IT (and the fab layout, too)!

Meet Agnes H., a.k.a. scrappieaggie48, a kind, creative, and friendly member of our online community. Get to know a thing or two about the wonderful Agnes H.!

Q – You have one word to describe yourself – go for it! (And then you can explain why you chose that word in a sentence or two!)
A – Tenacious – I always try to achieve especially in challenging  situatiions, I aim for a goal and keep at it until I succeed.

Q – Other than digital scrapbooking, what are your hobbies?
A-  Reading, walking  & going to the movies.

Q – Who are the most common “subjects” of your scrapbook pages?
A –  Mainly family members, friends and of course my little cat Mia, and challenges that inspire me to try different aspects of scrapping.

Q – How did you get first “get into” digital scrapbooking?
A-   I have always been interested in publishing programs, then my cousin invited me  to attend a traditional scrapbooking  class. Q – Where do you find the inspiration for your layouts?
A –  It depends on the photo and the theme I intend to use. Sometimes it comes together quickly and other times I have to have the brain work a little harder!!

Q – Can you share a useful Scrapbook MAX! tip – a feature of the program that you find especially useful?
A – The right click menu options.

Q – What’s your next scrapbook project?
A –  Birthday Projects – My  daughters 30th, my mothers 90th and  my 60th –  that is if I get my computer back from being fixed.  Am using my daughters laptop at the moment and having big time scrapping withdrawals!!!!

Q – Name your two favorite movies. Why are they special to you?
A – Little Women (because I received the book as a prize in my primary school years and always loved the story )Greyfriars Bobbie – I loved the  loyalty of  the little dog and also I visited Edinburgh  where his statue was and visited the cemetry where his master was buried.

Glamourous and Hilarious! – layout by OnieRN

The April Fool’s Day Edition (in MAY!)

In the Groove

They say that laughter is the best medicine. We, your Groove-y Editors, could not agree more! That’s why this May Issue of The Groove is dedicated to humor, fun, and good times in general!

In fact, we’re calling this issue of The Groove our April Fool’s Issue. (Why are we doing this in May, you ask? Because April’s theme was “babies” in honor of the release of Scrapbook MAX! Baby Edition. Sooooo, by doing this in May, I guess we’re already off to a wacky start!)

Want to win a mousepad in honor of April Fool’s Day? Be one of the first three people to email us at [email protected] listing the three (3) fiercely foolish headlines about Scrapbook MAX! found in this issue. Remember, you’re looking for outlandish, non-sensical, crazy facts. Our usual fun and foolery doesn’t count!

Lusciously Ludicrous Layouts!

Marion - Self PortraitGrannywin - Hang In There

We called for your kooky layouts, and boy did you deliver! Marion obviously had food “on the brain”, while Grannywin made cultural commentary by combining 70’s inspirational poster themes and the contemporary home renovation craze. Way to go, ladies!

Scrapbook MAX! used in Prehistoric Times?

Up until recently, it was thought that prehistoric humans preferred cave-drawing for artistic expression. However, a recent discovery by Dr. Maximus Overdrive of the Scrapsville Paleontological Institute suggests that digital scrapbooking may be a much older art form than previously thought. See the stunning photo below.

April Fool's Joke - Scrapbook MAX! Cave Painting

“What most impressed us at the Institute was the fact that the polite convention of giving credit was practiced even in these early times,” said Overdrive, referring to the surprising cave paintings recently discovered behind the town hall in Scrapsville. “We are also impressed with how well Scrapbook MAX! has stood the test of time.”

The date of the image is still being hotly debated, and tests are at this point still inconclusive. However, Dr. Overdrive expects the results to show that the image may date as early as the Ice Age. “In any event,” says Overdrive, “it surely pre-dates Vista.”

Scrapper Profile

Meet Sue P. from Illinois, a talented scrapper and helpful contributor to the Scrapbook MAX! forums. Read on!

 Sue P. Portrait

Sue P. from Illinois

Q- If you were an animal, what would you be? Why?
A- Oh boy, a tough one. I’d probably be a bear. A very cuddly one. I’ve always loved Teddy bears and how comforting they can be. I aspire to give that comfort and support as often as I can. Yep I know a teddy bear isn’t quite the answer you were looking for LOL, but its me.

Q- How long have you been digital scrapbooking and what got you started?
A- I’ve been digi scrapping ever since I found Scrapbook Max, December 2006. I try and send pages to my family in the UK. It’s a great way to keep in touch and for them to see how their Grand baby is growing. That’s what got me started.

Q- What are your non-scrapbooking hobbies?
A- Hmmm …. not sure I have any LOL. I do, just kiddin! My main hobby right now is my little angel with horns. Her name is Amy. I love cooking for my family and reading. But my favourite hobby right now is drawing on the aquadoodle wall poster with DH and DD.

Q- Tell us about your family.
A- I have family in the UK and in the USA. There is one little character that I really miss [yes I miss everyone so much, but this guy is special]. He is my nephew Jacob and has trisomy 13 [Patau Syndrome]. The doctors said he would not survive more than a few hours, he turns 8 in May. If there was anyone sent to teach us what life really means, he is the one. Love you sweetie.

Q- There is a blank screen in front of you. How do you begin your layout?
A- I always start with the photos and choose a kit to go with them. The hard part used to be deciding on the arrangement of the page but that is becoming easier with every page I do. Practice makes perfect. Now I just have to get over the indecision on what kits to use and I’ll be high n dry LOL.

Q- Tell us about one layout that you are particularly proud of and why.
A- I really really love “Fairy Dreams”. It was the first page that I managed to blend successfully and it was also a birthday card for my mum. The softness draws me to it every time.

Q-  What is the best part about using Scrapbook MAX!?

A- Oh easy question. Its ease and quickness. I can spend ages in Paint Shop Pro with special blending etc but when I want to put a LO together with speed and easiness, Scrapbook Max! is where I go. There is also the added bonus of the community. Yeah that’s you lot out there. You’re fantastic.

Q- Describe your favorite time of year.
A- Has to be autumn/fall or spring …. I can’t quite make up my mind. Spring is all about new growth and warmer weather. It’s a time of getting back in to step again. Autumn is the cool down of the hot summer and what can I say about the colours. They are adorable. Its a time to reflect and prepare for the winter.

Left-Handed Version of Scrapbook MAX! May Be In The Works

Sources close to the Scrapbook MAX! Team, including one person known only as “Resident Geek”, claim that Scrapbook MAX! may be in talks with left-handed experts about releasing a Left Handed Edition of Scrapbook MAX!.

“Left-handed scrapbookers are feeling…well…left out,”  our sort-of reliable sources say that perhaps someone involved in Scrapbook MAX! may have possibly said. “So we’re thinking of releasing a version that automatically puts all of the embellishments on left side of the page. Most importantly, the CD-ROM for the Left-Handed Edition will be nestled in the left-side of the box for easier access.”

Our sources also suggest that the Scrapbook MAX! team may eliminate  right-clicking in the rumored left-handed edition so as not to befuddle layouts created by southpaws.

Here’s how Carena describes her style:

[My style] is best described as modern and on the edge. I like to keep up to date with the latest trends and styles in the scrapping world. I am constantly on the look out for new ideas and love to put them into action with a new kit for members. My style is changeable sometimes with my mood and sometimes current trends is my biggest influence in my kits. Constantly learning new techniques and most nights I’m still at my computer until midnight learning and exploring new ideas. Best way to see my style is taking a look around my gallery. See my kits in action and how they look on layouts which is probably the best way to see it all happening. – Hugs from Carena

Thanks for sharing, Carena!

Use a Scrapbook MAX! Mouse Click Stick!

April Fool's Joke - Mouse Click Stick

Are you tired of using your finger to click the buttons on your mouse?

Give your fingertips a break, and reach for a stick instead! With spring yard clean ups abounding, you’re sure to find an ample supply of sticks for the job.

“In the 70’s and 80’s, everyone complained about dishpan hands. The problem we face today is mouse finger callous,” says Karin, co-editor of The Groove. “The solution is a mouse click stick. Ever since I started using one to click the buttons on my mouse, I can let my index finger do what it really wants – like pointing to trash bags that need to be taken out, and digging out the last of the double fudge cake frosting from the bottom of the container while I watch my favorite reality shows.”

Now that’s genius!
