This month, designer Deanne Gow-Smith has shared an elegant freebie that she is inviting you to have some “color fun” with!

Deanne’s Challenge:

Take the items in this kit and change the colours of everything (double-click on your item in the Scrapbook MAX! design space, click on the Advanced tab and use the adjust colour / hue settings in Scrapbook MAX! 2.0)
Make a color co-ordinated layout (with your new “colour scheme”)
Be sure to re-colour your background image. Here’s how:

Import a background paper from this kit into the design space as a “Background”. Double-click on the Background to call up its Settings. On the Settings dialog, keep Background Image selected, but at the same time choose a colour from the color selector. Then, use the transparency slider. Your chosen hue will shine through your background image!

Add text, making sure to use the colour blend or image/pattern buttons.

Color Theory

Certain colors just go together. Sometimes this is because they are completely opposite and they help each other “pop”. That’s the case in the layout below – we love how Diana (knzus) used purples and greens grounded by white to put together this lovely layout. It all looks even fresher because the tones are muted and not too bold. Pretty and unexpected!

Greens and Neutrals

Another way to make greens catch the eye is to layer it on a neutral. Kimbob’s grassy green elements on a grungy, neutral background are ingenious! We love how the natural green color catches your eye, but doesn’t distract from the subject of the layout – the photos of “good friends”. Fabulous!

This layout by sacannon was just so creative! There is so much artistry – using the main image as the background with an embossed image effect, focusing on a single frost-covered tree as the subject, and of course the pop of green (and touches of lively red), which make us think of warmth and life despite the storm. Blinkie Bonanza!

As many of you discovered in November, Donna Thomas has a talent for making blinkies – cool, animated “tags” that can be used in forum signatures. Last month, Donna challenged you to come up with the concept, and then used her artistic talents to bring your very own personalized blinkie to life!

dillie1 described Donna’s blinkie challenge thread perfectly (and seasonally!) as a “a Blinkie Xmas Tree”. We couldn’t agree more!
