David Octavius, the eighth and youngest of the Hill family, was my great great grand-uncle. His only sister, Mary, was mother of Annie Watson who married Thomas Kinmont, if you are interested in looking up the Kinmont family LO!!!
He was principally an artist but combined his knowledge, of art and in particular the use of light to enhance his subjects' portraits, with a photographer by the name of Robert Adamson, and together they took many portrait pictures, calotypes, as they were then known.
This is the guy who arranged the photos of the Newhaven fisherwives in their distinctive costumes - and if you feel so inclined, look at The Pastor's Visit, another of my ancestral LOs!!! That's one of their Newhaven pictures!
Thanks to Eva Kipler, [
