GGG grandfather Gall must have been visiting his flock with Mr Fairbairn, the minister, when Adamson and Hill were taking their series of early photographs (called Calotypes) of the Newhaven Fishwives. They were well known for their distinctive costumes as they went around selling the fish their men had caught out in the Forth.
Little did GGGgf know that in 1905, his great grandson, James Gall Inglis, would marry a grand-niece of David Octavius Hill! Chattie Hill Kinmont was actually named for Hill's young daughter who died in childhood, and was a granddaughter of Hill's sister Mary.
Thanks to Beth Nixon for the embellishments.
