Every Christmas my family gets together and makes Old Fashioned Stack Cakes. It's a tradition that's been in our family for generations. I loved finding these old pictures of various occasions and seeing a stack cake on the table in each of them.

Journaling: Grandma Lawson taught Bibby to make these and she taught Mother. Mother taught us to make them. I expect this recipe will be passed down in our family and an Old Fashioned Stack Cake will be found on every Christmas table for generations to come. It's a lot of work, but well worth the time when spent with those we love.
They are layers of wonderful pastry with apple butter spread between. Every few years my mom and I get together to make huge amounts of apple butter. (See layout in gallery) This year is probably going to be apple butter year.
