Margaret is one of my lacemaking friends, who I only see about once a year when a group of us get together for a lacemaking week on the west of Scotland. My turn to go south for a change. I had a great visit with Margaret and husband Colin, including doing a photography challenge, set us by Margaret while she got on with some embroidery for their beautiful village church in the best of the morning light. She got us to take pictures of what we saw as The Essence of Life at ...(their cottage)... and the extracted pieces in my LO are from some of the photos I took. Colin and I had fun taking pictures, printing them out and arranging them but I would like to have been able to do this LO for the challenge. Of course the essence of any house is the people who live there - most important, so large picture. The leafy background and the flowers signify the countryside around them, which they love. They both love cats - Merlin is their black cat in the photo - and the adorable cat ornament shows their humour and gentleness, while the copper and brass ornaments say "cosy country cottage" to me. Margaret being a lacemaker, made the beautiful lace for the fan - believe me, it is exquisite - and the odd little ornament in front of the lace is a "bobbin tree" on which are hung some of Margaret's threaded lace bobbins. I'd say I captured the essence of their place pretty well!
