Does anyone know what is proper when using commercial products or trademark characters in a layout?

I used a party plate as my theme for a multipage layout for my grandson's birthday. Must I keep it for my use only, or can it be viewed in the gallery.

I presume it would be OK to share any embies or paper that I created based on the plate color scheme. I know I can't share the designs I got from the plate.

I just want to clarify the rules to follow since I found this to be a great source of ideas for a layout.

From what I all heard here, you can use any photo in the gallery, but have to mention where the photo came from, and you can not use it for resale...
