Default What other programs do you use with SBM?

I want to get a program for photo editing and such, but I am not sure which one to get. There are sooo many different ones out there and I was wondering what everyone else is using, and which you like the best. All these programs cost a very pretty penny this days. I have downloaded the Adobe photoshop elements 5 and although it does alot of things I am not sure its the right one for me. I have also experimented with ACDSee which I really like. I dont want to buy a bunch of stuff I am never going to use. What do you peeps use the most in your programs? Although I am using the PSE5 I see I need to buy a plugin just to curl a page, Are all the programs like this???? What are some of thing you like and dislike? I appreciate any comments on this. I am in no rush just curious!!!

I'm using PSP XI ..... its gone more photo editing than anything else but it still has lots of problems to iron out. I cant browse anything that is not in my documents. I'm should be able to add folders, but when I do, it wont see anything in them ..... tagging [attaching a word to the photo that is not in the title] only works on 3 formats. It wont even work on psp images LOL. Yes I could right a list on what I don't like. However the list I do like is much longer. I've used PSP for years. The best thing I would suggest is download the trial and see what you think. Its not for everyone, people seem to love it or hate it .... same with PSE I have heard.

As to doing things like page curl, the simple page curl is there and the trial should show you what other effects you can do. But in general you will have to buy "extras" for some effects even though a fantastic photo effect addon called virtual photographer is free. Think you can use that with photoshop as well as paint shop pro. This really improves my photos. Used it on my last LO to bring the colours out.

I would like to get one too but have no clue what one to get. I need one that has step by step instructions. I downloaded a GIMP and could not figure it out. I failed at the start because I do not know how to get started.

What is PSP - paintshop pro??? Photoshop pro??
Onie I have the gimp and I actually really like it. I dont know all that much about it but I just like playing around in there, make stuff, like doodling, but what I really like about the gimp is the ease to use the transparent background. I for one HATE reading instructions, so I just keep playing until I figure it out, then I am in awe! LOL

PSP is Paint Shop Pro ...... PSP XI is titled - Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. I forgot to mention that I bought the boxed version .... same price as download version, just got to wait a few more days and as I had the trial anyway, it made no difference to me.

Anyway, with the boxed version I also got a tutorial dvd. You might also have that with the download version to but not sure. I've not watched it yet so can't comment on it but it is there. May be I'll watch it and report back

Thanks! Muma!!!! M&M I know how ya feel, I think the best thing I can tell ya is when you have a program they all have the same thing at the top: New, Open. dadadaada I go to open, in there I browse my computer for a picture a graphic whatever, then hit ok, it brings in the object you select, from there I just play around with different effects, plug ins whatever it has to offer. It came be very frustrating at times. Like now for instance, I made balloons, for the life of me I cant figure how to fill them in with color. Yes I can color them in with paint, but I guess I havent figured out all about the layers yet. But the way I look at it is as long as I have the patience for it I'll keep trying.

I did figure out how to make a object transparent, so if any one needs help with that I can try and explain it to ya! In the Gimp, that and the ACDSee I can do it in.
