Question Some unanswered questions- help required

Desmond, I had these questions in another thread, but I think they got lost in there....lol. And, I checked; I have the latest version of SBM.

Desmond, you were right on the first issue. I was referring to Projects. Thank you for your answer. It explains why I have multiple files for each. I assume that I should back up the entire folder package, instead of doing each one separately. So I keep all the elements together. Is this correct?

Now I still have a problem with where all the downloaded templates are. From your post above, you said they should be in My Documents\SBM\templates. I have downloaded quite a bit, but the only items showing up are a downloaded frames folder and one template. However, when I am in the SBM program, all these downloaded templates are there. I checked C:\Programs\SBM\Templates and there are 31 templates there. But none of them are the downloaded templates. So I still can't find where these downloaded templates are being held. If I can't find them, then I can't save them to my EHD or CD.

    Hi Verleen!

Just thought I'd jump in with a troubleshooting question:

When you are downloading templates from the Sharing Corner, are you clicking on them and choosing "Open"? If so, the template should automatically be dowloaded to My Documents > Scrapbook MAX! > Templates (it is not automatically dowloaded to the Projects folder - here is where you find scrapbooks that you have actually worked on). When you are in Templates, look for the name of the template you downloaded with the file extension .smt

Is it possible that you are choosing to "Save" the templates that you are downloading rather than "Open" ? And are you then designating a location other than My Documents > Scrapbook MAX! > Templates to save them to?

For example, I just downloaded a great sunflower template from Mary (mh51 - thanks, it's gorgeous!) - I clicked on the file attachment to the thread, then chose to "Open" the attachment - it automatically downloads to the location under My Documents. When I go to My Documents > Scrapbook MAX! > Templates, I scroll through my templates there and find a file called:
    "mh51-Sunflower.smt" - that's the one!

If I chose to Save it, I can change the location where the file is stored. On my computer, if I just chose Save and then clicked OK to the first location that popped up as an option, my template would be saved in a folder with other word documents - so I wouldn't find it under My Documents > Scrapbook MAX! > Templates

Sorry if this is too wordy or basic, but I find that the more info we give and share, the quicker we can get to the root of your question and solve any problems you might have.

Let us know if this clears anything up!

Karin, I always go the easy route. I just click them and it saves it automatically. I don't do anything else. And when I open SBM, they are there. But when I go to Windows Explorer, they are not there. And so, I cannot save them to a CD or EHD.

Correct. WHerever possible when backing up, grab entire folders. No sense seperating anything, as you'd just have to put it back together during the restore process.

There are three locations (as far as content goes) when backing up stuff that you need to be aware of:
    • My Documents\Scrapbook MAX!\Templates - This is where downloaded templates are stored.
    • Program Files\Scrapbook MAX!\Templates - This is where the templates that came with Scrapbook MAX! when you purchased the software.
    • Program Files\Scrapbook MAX!\Gallery - This is where *all* other content (shapes, backgrounds, papers, embellishments, etc.) go.

To my knowledge, Scrapbook MAX! doesn't "scan" any other location on your harddrive when looking for templates / content.

If you wish to back up your completed projects, you would back up this folder:
    • My Documents\Scrapbook MAX!\Projects

Desmond, there is something wrong. Here is what Windows Explorer shows:

My Documents\Scrapbook MAX!\Templates - 1 template (Knzus). However, when I go into the SBM program, there are 136 templates that come up. This bit of information should be very revealing!

Program Files\Scrapbook MAX!\Templates - there are 31 templates (SMT) here. Is this what I got with the program? I thought there were more. Even though I thought I removed the trial version, Windows Explorer is still showing the trial version is still there.

    Program Files\Scrapbook MAX!\Gallery:
Under Backgrounds there are alot of template looking files (that is, paper with embellishments on them). However these are listed as Kodak EasyShare.jpg files. My Kodak program seems to be labeling these when I do the automatic downloads. These appear to be at least some of the templates that appear when I go into the SBM program.

Under Embellishments, there appears to be even more template looking stuff that have a Kodak jpg label.

There is more than one My Documents on your computer. If you go to C:/Documents and Settings you will find more than one user account folder. I seem to have 4 of them. Maybe the templates are not being saved in your default account but to a different account.

Thanks for trying to help Rosalie. I really appreciate your concern. I have two users set up on my computer. One for Admin and one for 'All Users'. SMB downloads should be in the latter one. But I did check the other and they are not there either.

I'm beginning to think that the SBM people do not know what the problem is. They are avoiding me. Or trying to figure it out without letting me know that they are. I sent a message to the store contact and they haven't responded either. Communication is a wonderful thing when it is used.

    Hello,

    1. I'm sure I asked you this already, but I can't seem to find the response -- what version of the software are you running? (eg. v.1.0.0.0)

    2. Do a search of your entire computer (Start > Search) for *.smt
That should display all templates on your system. When it finds the other templates that sbmax is including, please let me know where they are located.

    Thanks,
    Desmond.

Desmond, I don't know the version number....can't find it. But when I click on the Update link, it says that I have the latest version.

Okay, some success here. I did the search and found the files. They are here:
C:\Documents and Settings\x\My Documents\Scrapbook MAX!\Templates. Thank you for helping me find them. Now why they are here, rather than in the file structure that you gave me, I have no idea. BTW, x is the file description for all users. Somehow, all these templates appear in the SBM program's templates. At least, now I can save these templates to my external hard drive. Thanks Desmond.

You're welcome. FYI, version information can be found by clicking Help > About.
