newbie designing question ........

I've started working on some embellishments n stuff for freebies but I was wondering what size is the right size to make them. Because of the program I am using they are huge atm and need to be resized.

Yep I know, size does matter ...... after reading the problem about the Jan challenge and the file size being way too big I thought I'd find out what the right size should be.

Oh just thought it might help if I mention pixels ...... what size in pixels do you usually make backgrounds, embellies, scraps etc?
