Changing color of text created with images.

New to the program, so I may have missed how to do this...but when I am creating text using an image, I am unable to adjust the original color of the image to match my color scheme. For instance, if I change a red patterned paper to blue for my background, and then want to make text using the same paper, I am unable to change the red to blue for the text. As of right now, I have to save the blue patterned paper as an image and then use that to create blue patterned text.

Would also like to know if there is any easier way. I've been doing the same thing as you do.
