This tutorial shows how to create a Text Embellishment (TE) as a transparent PNG (image with a clear background) using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 or 3 (PSE). These instructions probably also work with PSE4 but haven’t been tested.
What’s a Text Embellishment? A TE is an image of a text character such as
letters, numbers, symbols, punctuation, and just about anything else that can be used to create captions, signs, titles or other writing on a Scrapbook MAX page. The advantage of TEs is that they can be incorporated into Scrapbook MAX pages as objects instead of text which is limited by the fonts installed on the PC.
If you have PSE, you can create your own transparent PNGs to use as letters, numbers, symbols, embellishments or anything else that your imagination can, well, imagine… In this tutorial, we will create a caption titled Summertime in the City but you can just as easily create a whole alphabet using this technique and write the caption as individual letters. The advantage to doing that is that you only have to do it once. Once all your letters are created as transparent PNGs in a particular style, you can use individual letters to “write” future text.
