My Computer, Then & Now
Mommabird, you can still get XP computers from Dell for a short while longer. Yes, the support for XP will be going away, but if you take care of it and maintain it, keeping ugly programs out and such, you can look forward to another 4 years of use out of it, even without the support. By then, Vista will be the program of choice for Microsoft users, and the next version to come along will be anticipated with dread.
This whole discussion brought to mind the first computer my family ever had. It was an Adam - advertised as "the complete computer in a box!". It had no hard drive, and used special cassette tapes to store information on. It came with a daisy wheel printer that was the noisiest thing I'd ever heard. But, we were the first family on the block to have a computer, and we thought it was just something really special. It cruised along with a blazingly fast proccessor speed of 3.58 MHz...
I was so amused by what was top of the line then and average now that I had to put together a little layout for it all...

And yes, my current computer really is flamingo pink, much to my teenage son's dismay.
