View Full Version : The Groove's (First Ever!) Monthly Freebie Challenge!

The Groove
03-01-2008, 09:07 AM
Welcome to The Groove's (First Ever!) Monthly Freebie Challenge!

The Groove, Scrapbook MAX!'s *free* monthly newsletter (http://www.scrapbookmax.com/thegroove/), is starting a brand new monthly challenge. Each month, a featured designer will offer a great freebie mini-kit and issue a challenge based on that kit.

All you need to do is download the freebie, create a layout that steps up to the challenge, upload it to your gallery, and post a link to your layout in a reply to this thread!

There's MORE! Everyone gets the freebie, and at the end of the month, three lucky, random participants will also receive an official Scrapbook MAX! mousepad. WOO-HOO!

Details about this month's freebie and challenge are below!

The "Freebie" Part

Kathie Woolery (http://www.scrapbookmax.com/store/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=39) has generously supplied a freebie mini-kit to all our Groove readers based on her full kit called "Primavera Promises" - "Tender pink flowers, blue skies, and the first sweet green grass; this mini-kit coordinates with Primavera Promises and features five springtime backgrounds in a watercolor on canvas texture and ten elements to help you celebrate Spring!"

(To download this month's freebie, click on the attached .smb file below called KWO-Primavera-Promises-Freebie.smb. Choose "Open", and the content will be automatically imported into Scrapbook MAX! under "Embellishments")

The "Challenge" Part

Kathie has issued this challenge based on her freebie mini-kit:

"Create a layout using all three colors of papers and at least five elements (i.e., the papers and elements from the free mini-kit)." Upload your layout to the gallery, then post a link to your layout in a reply to this thread.

So get the freebies, accept the challenge, and get in on the fun (and the possibility of a free mousepad!)

And of course, be sure to check out the March 2008 issue of The Groove (http://www.scrapbookmax.com/newsletter/)! You'll find more freebies, tips, and even an awesome discount on featured kits in the Scrapbook MAX! Booster Pack Store!

Happy Scrapping!

Your Groove Editors,
Karin and Marnie

This is the first layout I have published to the gallery. I hope it is okay!

This is a special memory of my husband with his (our) daughter at her wedding this past May. Not only did he give her away, but, he was the minister that performed the ceremony! It was a very special day! This sample was perfect for the theme of her garden wedding with lavender as her main color.

This sample is so beautiful. I love the butterflies! Everyone has done such beautiful work so far!

Hi alwayshope.. when you upload to the gallery when the picture appears there - on that page you will see a code in a box if you scroll down.. copy the UBB CODE and then simply post that code in your post in the thread and the picture will appear full size.
Nice to have you aboard!

Hi all! Received my full software this afternoon. Thought I would jump right in and try my first page and my first challenge. While I can see where I would want to improve upon this page I am pleased with my first go at it. SBM is amazing! If I can get this far without much help then I am happy! Looking foward to learning more and more....

PS What is the best way to link to my gallery on a reply? I did start a new album and uploaded the image....:)

Hi alwayshope...... Great job on your first page!!! I really like that you have played with adjusting the colors and opacity of the backgrounds... I also like the page curl you've added to the photo of your children.... and they are cuties (I'll bet you're so proud of them)..... so, while you may have areas that you think you would like to change/improve, I think it's a great layout.... Thanks for participating in the challenge and sharing your layout with us!!! {{hugs}}

Here is my page for the challenge. I'm finally figuring out that not everything has to be within the confines of the page. I used the bow upside-down to make the flower stems and the tag to make the cloud shapes at the top. This is sooo much fun. I am totally addicted to SBM. Thanks granny for the awesome freebie!

I really enjoy looking at all of your beautiful layouts. They are magnificient. Some of you gals sure do know how to scrap. I really love the scrappy look of layers, etc but usually can't figure out myself how to do all that. I just keep watching, trying and learning. I love SBM.

I have combined the beautiful gift and colors of this challenge with the March designer challenge and used some shapes <GrannyWin's background>. This alpha with beads and the beads on the page so fit my favorite aunt. I can't believe she doesn't have beads on in this picture.

Hi K..... I really like your layout of your Aunt Millie.... it's great the way you have not only color blocked the backgrounds, but also used the flower shape..... I also like the way you adjusted the color on the beaded staples to make them look more like her favorite pearls.... and then (it appears to me) you cropped the staples to use them as pearls in your page title.... very creative use of this mini-kit.... Thanks for participating in the challenge and sharing your LO with us!!!

Wow, ladies. These are all so good. And such creative minds!!! I'd never have thought to use that ribbon as flower stems or turn butterflies into flowers. Or trim the staples to just the beads. Great ideas! I'm so impressed with your creativeness!

Lallyann,
This was my first challenge also, but then I jumped in at the deep end with both feet and have been participating in the weekly challenge and March designer challenges. They are well worth the time because I knew NOTHING about digital scrapbooking and have really learned a lot and very quickly. These folks are tops! I love your layout. That photo is perfect for these colors.
