this weeks challenge is called 'My Name'

the idea is to scrap about your name be that why you were given your name, what your name means or any other angle you can thing of

Rules:

1) Scrap one page (or more if you want lol) about YOUR name

This was a fun assignment for me since I had over 60 years to finally figure out who I am. I even got a passport when I took a trip to Canada a few years ago because I wasn't sure I could get back into the country with my confusing paperwork. Now it is just an interesting quirk that makes me special!

Thanks to DLT for the beautiful papers (DigiscrapDepot?) and hilj for the pink button. I used GrannyScraps clip and Kimbob's mask with a few alterations.

Great stories. Reminds me of my mom's story. Her parents couldn't agree on a name. One wanted Bernice, the other wanted Lorene. So her Birth Certificate didn't have a first name for her to begin with. Her birth certificate also had her dad's middle name listed as her Mother's middle name, and it had the wrong birthdate (one day later). My mom went by Bernice the first few years. She didn't like it, and they finally let her go be Lorene. They finally were able to add the first name to her birth certificate, which still has the other information wrong. One year (after I was an adult) I was in a drug store with my mom and some one she new from her childhood came in. She called my mom Bernice. It threw my mom for a minute but then she said "yes, but I go by Lorene now". Hard to believe she still recognized my mom after all those years.

WOW Sue this is so funny! but was great someone recongnized her by her other name!
and its true that some people had a day later in the birth certificate, in the case of my parents in law, mom have in her certificate on day later because she was registered by her dad on day later because they cant go out for the snow

I'm still working on mine! I have the basic layout done but I still need a pic.......lol I guess I need to get the scanner up and going again.

I find it amazing at the names my students come in with. The hispanic culture has guidelines on taking last names. I get some kids in that have 3 or more last names, because they have Moms. Dads. and who ever else. That gets difficult when you have to figure out how to file their charts or emergency cards.......lol The winner is a boy at school. His parents didn't give him a first name at birth, so his legal name is "BOY" although he goes by Daniel. I do not understand why the parents never got around to re-naming him on his birth certificate!

My given name was Marion Margaretha Jose. Plus my last name.
In the Netherlands where I was born, most people have more then one middle name. All legal forms in the USA only have room for one. So when I moved to the USA, I had to give up one of my names and I now go by Marion M.

Ok. My Mom named my brother's after former partners and were "A", and "B" names. So My Father named me after girlfriends and following the pattern I was due for a "C" name so he came up with Crystal Dawn.

Then in my senior year my Spanish teacher Mr. Pehler translated that to Clara Aurora.

I looked it up in an on-line name dictionary at http://www.behindthename.com/

this is what I came up with ROTF! hee hee.

Wow, these are all awesome stories. Mine is more average. Hopefully I will get to it.

I have to take my mom to the store, but I don't feel like it because I am sick. I think it is either Sinusitis or Alergic Rhinitis (spelling). From past experience. But it was brought on because I stopped taking my Alergy pills because of another medicine I was taking said not to take decongestants. Then my nose started dripping like a faucet and here I am now! But the good news is I called the doctor and he said I could go ahead and take the alergy meds. But I don't know how long it will take to kick in. We are taking my mom Saturday down to Tennesee to meet my sister who is coming up from Florida. They are taking her back with them for two weeks. Then we have to go throuh the exchange again in a couple of weeks. She won't fly by her self because she has a hard time getting around and it makes her too nervous.

So anyway, I will try and get to this.

The name Sue, Susie, Susan, Susanna etc...means Lily in Hebrew and French

The name Arlene means "Oath" or "Pledge" in Irish/Celtic
In English it is a varient of Carlene and Charlene. In French it is derived from a feminine diminutive of Charles meaning Manly :eek: and is a medieval givin name.

My mom had considered naming me "Tina". But my dad said that "Tina" was more fitting for a tiny person and neither of them were "Tiny", so he didn't think the name would be fitting.

Before I was born, must have been the year before, my mom and dad asked my dad's cousin Susie to come stay with them during summer break. She was a teenager. They were looking for a babysitter and told her she could make a little money during the summer that way. So she did. The following year I was born and they ended up naming me after her and my Great Grandmother. Then my middle name came from my Aunt Arlene, my mom's sister. So my names are from both sides.

I agree. It was lots of fun reading about the origin of the names. It reminded me how we decided on names for our kids. My youngest son was supposed to be a Stephen, but when he came in like a "747" (fast), he became a Douglas (like the airliner).:)

Wow - girls you have all done some excellent pages. I'm sorry I don't always get enough time to drop over and check out what's happening in the challenges.
