O.K., pretend you're at a slumber party (in our case here at the SBM forum, we'll make it co-ed just for the sake of the question ;) )..........
And your friends ask............
Who is the most famous person you have ever met? .........How? Why? Under what circumstance? What were they like? Rude, surprisingly pleasant, prettier in person....?
Come on scrapbookers.........let's hear it!!

When I was 10 we went on the "Love Boat" for spring break. There was tons of stars there mixing and mingling with guests. The cast of Love Boat as well as some of the casts of Soap, Eight is Enough, Little House on the Prairie, and a couple other hit shows from that era. Billy Crystal was a nice guy, Ted Lange too. They were the only two who hung out with us kids at all. None of those encounters really mattered though, I'm not a TV person. The only people I met on that cruise which made any impression on me at all were Jacques Cousteau and his son Jean. Neat guys. Definitely my type of people, all substance no filler.
The only famous person I've ever met who really rocked my world is the guitarist Mike Stern. Man oh man oh man!!! Can't say enough good stuff about that guy, easily in the top ten electric guitarists in history. He absolutely blew me away. :D

Most famous musician would probably have to go to Reba McEntire. I made her coffee when her tour bus stopped in for a short rest at Rogers Pass in the Canadian Rocky Mountains while I was working there. It was very, very early in the morning, but she was completely pleasant and (I remember thinking) remarkably attractive for someone her age with little or no makeup on. Not that she was that old at the time, but I was that young. :) Her crew were a real ragtag, funloving bunch - one of them was wearing a Sex Pistols cap.
(I also met a supposedly very famous Swedish singer/actress while I was at Pang Ljud studio in Stockholm...and while I didn't have the foggiest idea who she was, the guys there made a very big fuss about her. It probably didn't hurt that she was tremendously cute.)
I've met a lot of writers at readings and such, but the most famous is probably Orson Scott Card. I'd long been an admirer of his talent, so the first time I met him it Was A Big Deal (tm) for me. Unfortunately it turned out the only thing greater than his talent was his ego; he was remarkably self-important and externally aware of his "greatness," at least at the time I met him. Maybe he's humbled a bit since then?

Wel, first to move to Rome i worked in an orient express 5*hotel in lima, peru, and there i met some important people i checked in some of them like Jane Fonda, Goldie Hawn, Ben Khingsley this last two were fantastic, so kindly but the best for me was goldie hawn so funny i remembered that she made a little joke with my friend when i was making the check out, my friend was attending an internal phone call, and mrs hawn was at the frotn desk talking to me, but this fantastic woman joked with fhe phone call of my friend, was fantastic, she's fabolous.
i saw also there the Asturias prince, Felipe, and some presidents, who came for the change of presidents in lima 2001, also Mario TEstino a peruvian and very famous photographer, he is so nice and kindly too.
my experience in the hotel was incredibly, fantastic, wonderfull, etc and the true is that i miss so much my job and hope to find a similar one here in rome

Wow - the Scrapbook MAXers have certainly have firm ties with the glitterati. Almost suspiciously so. Perhaps our forum names disguise our true identities and we are all celebs trying to get in touch with our crafty, creative sides...
Who knows - "Karin" could be the perfect cover name for Liza Minelli or Tom Hanks... Something to think about...
Seriously, though. Probably the most famous person I met was Pierre Trudeau. I was in Ottawa with my family when I was a kid. He was strolling away from the Parliament buildings (on his way to the parking lot....or maybe a Slurpee..for all I know) and he said "Bonjour" to us.
My sister-in-law gave flowers to Queen Elizabeth and also met Patrick Swayze. Two separate occassion :p :p

I shook former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's hand while on a grade 9 school trip to Ottawa waaaayyy back in the day. My only impression of him was he stunk of cologne! My hand smelled all day. That was in the late 80's!

Living in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles, I have meet, worked, and even traveled with quite a few famous people whose names you would all recognize. Some of them were very nice, some were real horses pututies. I also used to hang around with the nieces and nephews of a very well known dictator. He is a horses pututy, the kids are very nice.
But the most famous, important people I've ever meet where:
1) My parents, who have spent a life time taking care of me and making me happy. Their love, dedication and sacrifices excell any thing any movie star or famous person has ever done.
2) Some of my teachers, whose names I don't even remember, but who patiently encouraged, taught and guided me.
3) My grandmother, who I only got to enjoy for 14 years before I had to live the country, and whom I never saw again. She was the most wonderful person in my life.
4) My dear neighboors, who every time they hear an ambulance in our large apartment complex, run out to see who's hurt and find out what they can do to help.
5) My 7 million spiritual brothers and sisters throught the whole earth, who I can confidently go to any time and know that they will give every thing they have, including their lives, even though they have no clue as to who I am. Ask Moonbeam, she'll tell you.
6) And last but not least... All of you in this forum, who so lovingly and generously share their talent, graphics, stories, family pictures, advise, support, laughter, and concern with me.
I'm sure I forgot to mention some others, but believe me, no one, not one of those "Stars" out there, come close to shining like the ones I mentioned above.
Thank you all for being my friends.

He actually came to Janesville, Wisconsin. Can you imagine that!!!

Oh, Marnie, you're so right, it is fun. I was'nt trying to be a spoilsport. Ok, I'll drop some names, :D :D
My inlaws traveled with Michael Jackson on his concerts, so once we got to go back stage, where we meet "The Fonze" Henry Winkler and John Ritter, and quite a few other famous persons.
I visited Henry Wilcox several times at his house in Burbank, (Associate Producer of the Ten Commandments) who was a fox even in his old age.
I meet Teresa Graves from Get Christy Love. And I worked and traveled with Jeanny Linero, who played the role of Andy Garcia's mother in the first and last Godfather's movie, and was Freddy Prince's girlfriend in Chico and the Man. She was a wonderful person and good friend. She passed away recently.
There, is that better? :p

At first I thought Orson Scott Card was the keyboardist from Bon Jovi. But then I thought, wait a minute - what would Lorne be doing reading a book by Bon Jovi's keyboardist? After that I pretty much realized there's a good chance it might not be him.

Here's a "sortof" met someone famous. Our family was flying back east from Denver and Robin Williams was sitting right behind us. We kept telling my mother-in-law that Robin Williams was behind us - she didn't have a clue until I said, "It's Mork!" Then she turned right around and said hi to him. He looked very tired but he was quiet and polite and didn't ask for any special treatment. :)

I met the singer of what used to be my favorite band (rock/metal kinda band) at that time (that was maybe 5 years ago) whom I found extremely hot! It was a great moment, even though I don't like that band anymore. So, it was at the concert, of course. I was in the front and I noticed he just kept on looking in my direction, but I thought he was looking at the girl standing next to me 'cause she was really hot. Eventually, he left the stage between two songs, and came back on stage. Minutes later, a bodyguard came to me and gave me a backstage pass. So after the show I went at the private backstage party. It was great!!
My boyfriend met Claudia Schiffer many years ago when she was still a supermodel and when she paid a little visit to Montreal. He was lucky enough to say hi to her, and she smiled back and said hi too. He told me she had a very cute face, but in person, she is disgustingly toooooo skinny, as you could expect...

The most famous person I've met -- on a national scale, the only person *close* to famous is Meredith Henderson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0376546/bio) (better known to my generation as Shirley Holmes). This is going back to when I was still a kid (well . . . a much YOUNGER kid).
I was at a friend's place eating dinner, when she came bounding down the stairs and sat down at the table -- turns out she was my buddy's cousin. She was quite pleasant, but more surprisingly, quite normal: no superstar complex that so many of the up-and-comings have today (let alone the so labeled 'superstars'!).
On a more local scale (Winnipeg, MB, Canada), i'd have to say Leo Mol (http://www.partnersinthepark.org/biography.html). He had some very interesting philosophies, and was quite a humble man.

You're a fellow winnipegger, aren't you? You should take a spin through the sculpture gardens in Assiniboine park (Well, park and *walk*, they'd prolly get mad if you drove through there ...)
That, and the english gardens there, is one my favorite (quiet) places to go around here.

I can't believe how nice that is. Skateable sculptures? Oohhh man, my heart aches to be there. That's amongst the nicest parks in the world and an enormous boon for Winnipeg. The Forks is guaranteed to be a HUGE success. 3 cheers for Winnipeg city council!!! :)

Lets see, I met Joan Lundon who use to be on Good Morining America. She stayed at the Inn I was working at. I had the pleasure of ironing her clothes that she was going to wear on the show the next day. Then she didn't even wear them because she shopped at LLBean and had to wear what she bought there.
The next person was last summer, we took our boys to a Red Soxs game ( we are big Red Soxs fans.) we were standing on what they called autograph alley waiting for all the players to come in. My youngest dropped his ball over the fence and there was no way we could get it. A big Limo drives up and all these important people got out. This big tall man came over and asked who's ball and if we wanted autographs? We had no Idea who he was at the time, but we said sure we will have an autograph. He turned out to be Rich Miller who played for for the Red Soxs in the sixtys. Very nice man. He also got my Boys Hazel Mae's Autograph. She is on Nesn for sports desk. So he took 4 baseballs and he signed them all as well as Hazel Mae. That made 4 boys happy. They didn't get anybody recent from the Red Sox but were happy they did get an autograph. Also the did see alot of the players coming in in their big fancy cars.
Marnie
07-06-2006, 09:38 PM
That's a great story about the 4 boys and the "older" baseball player.
That got me thinking about how funny that situation would be - when you don't realize how famous the person is with whom you're speaking. Just think, for all anybody knows, they could be sitting beside a hugely famous person on a plane, talk to them the whole way, all the while being ignorant to their fame! Funny! :D
Although I guess if they were really famous, they'd be in first class or on their own plane! :D
Desmond
07-07-2006, 08:15 AM
A buddy's dad once sat next to Patrick Stewart on a trans-atlantic flight. He knew his face, but didn't know why -- so they just talked like old buddies.
I think if I were famous, the worst part would be that I couldn't go ANYWHERE anonymously. Imagine not being able to eat anywhere except the most exclusive places without being disturbed -- or having to wear those SILLY big sunglasses whenever you go out -- even in a rainstorm!

I went into a T.G.I.F (RESTAURANT) in Orange, California. While waiting to be seated, I noticed a guy sitting that looked very familar. I honestly thought it was someone I grew up with and just didn't reconize by name. Well...... He sat there in old blue jeans, a raggy T- Shirt, long hair and unshaven. He had his arms crossed in front of him and was looking in my direction. Finally I realized it was Kurt Russell. He was seated on the patio and I was seated next to him. His 3 sons joined him, one having an ice pack on his neck/shoulder. He also had his parents and I believe his sister. No, Goldie was not with him. Finally, I think I figured out what the heck they had been doing. In the mall "Block of Orange" is a skate board park. I believe he and his son must of been there, playing on the skate boards. THat would certainly explain the ice pack on his son's neck. I actually asked someone..... " Is that who I think it is?" The man responded in saying "it sure is" The man introduced himself has Kurt's dad! I wanted to badly to just say hello but it was obviouse that he was trying to blend in with the crowd and not be noticed. Sure wished I had a camera phone then! So, I just sat at my table, less than 4 feet away, and enjoyed the view! I was amazed that Kurt Russel is actually a short man. He always looked so tall! Oh but what a "BABE" he was!

Hi everybody! I'm a little late joining in on this but the most famous person I have ever met was many, many, many years ago. I was 6 years old and my dad was still in the military, he posted was to Quntico, Virginia to Senior School and one day brought a classmate of his home, John Glenn. This was before his "little trip", which happened several months later. From the perspective of a six your old child, he was a very nice man. My mom, still, thinks he was one of the nicest people she has ever met!
Talk to you all later!

I had the opportunity to meet "famous" people, even to be invited in the "Elysée", the French house of president ( I was a kid, it was in 1969....). I also meet "famous" people in airports while I travel the world, but the most famous people I had the privilege to be so close, was my father. He teach me so important things, not only by words, but most of all by his own example. He was a very modest man, obliged to left school when he was 14, abandonned by his parents, but He teach me so much important life guidelines ! He teach me the Real Life ! He passed away on aug 7,2004.
I do hope I will be a such good father for my daugther....

this post , to me is the absolute best!!!! what a wonderful view of important people...the truly important ones are the ones who may not get Fame and fortune but to us they are priceless..... I mean "celebrities" ? what are they just another human being with the same frailities we all have ..so they do a great job at something that brings them "fame" or fortune... good on them and well done but I have never felt a need to get an autograph or drop names of anyone "famous" any talent they have is god given anyway.

Last week on my flight from Winnipeg to Vancouver I saw Adam Beach!!! For those of you who don't know who he is, he's a Native actor from Manitoba. He's been in Windtalkers, Squanto, Smoke Signals and many more. Anyhoo...I guess I was grinning like an idiot at him because we caught eyes as he walked by...and then...and then...he told me I have a nice smile! Wow what a rush. And then on the way off of the plane he turned around and looked at me and said 'You're the one with the gorgeous smile.' I swear I've never blushed so hard in my life. What a thrill. And don't worry about the claustrophobia. Do what I told you, have a stiff drink before, during and after... If you make it to after, I'll have one with you. When I was 18 I met Randy Travis. I was working for a movie theatre and he was in town for a concert. At the time I was madley in love with him and when my co-workers told me he was there I didn't belive them. When him and him group of people came out I asked him who he was. He laughed and said he was Randy Travis. I called him a liar, asked to see proof and procede to tell him Randy Travis was a lot better looking than he was and walked off. My best friend went to his concert( I had to work) and told me he talked about the girl at the movies and laughed. I was horrified, but got over it.

OMG! You peeps have really met some famous people in your lifetime! Only ones I met were in concerts. Than you don't really get to talk to them, except in Branson, MO of course! Talked with Paul Revere and Bill Medley from the Righteous Brothers. That was exciting for me!!

Uh, yeah, Karin...we're all celebs disguised as scrappers. LOL!
Let's see...these are all many years ago...I met Crystal Gayle ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Gayle ) and got her autograph after a concert at the Kansas State Fair...also Ray Stevens ( http://www.raystevens.com/bio.html ), at the state fair another year...and Flash Cadillac ( http://www.flashcadillac.com/ ), again at the state fair. But I think the coolest one I ever met was Ricky Nelson ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricky_Nelson ) -- I happened to be the lucky housekeeper at the motel where he stayed and got to clean his room and meet him at the same time -- sadly he died the next year in the plane crash.

I've had dinner with Prince Andrew and Fergie, performed acrobatics for the queen (in Alice Springs, many years ago when I could flex), spoken to Diana and Charles (in Queensland), looked after Eric Banners kids (in Melbourne), served petrol for the group Sherbet (again many years ago), spoken to Daryl Braithwaite. There have been a few more over the years, mostly Australian artists which I have spent time with due to working in Childcare.

How did I ever miss this one?
I've met some famous people when I worked in a stationary store on Fulahm road, London.
Adam Ant was looking for blotting paper.
Elton John came in just as the doors were being closed and our manager opened them up again for him to buy some Christmas cards on Christmas eve.
Unfortunately I was away on holiday when Princess Diana came in for a look. Also Simon Le Bon came in that week
But I was there when Paula Yates walked in with Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom and friend.
I've been scuba diving with John Nettles. He played a detective in a British show called "Bergerac" based in Jersey.
I know the script writer of "Shallow Grave", "Train Spotting", "A life less ordinary" and "The Beach" ... John Hodge. I used to work with his girl friend at the time [think they got married] and the guy I lived with was a very good critic so John used to ask us [as well as the whole pharmacy dept] to go see the films.
Stood next to Siouxsie [Siouxsie and the Banshees] at a concert.
Stood next to Alex Winter [Bill and Ted fame] at a Green Day concert.
Erm .... think that is it for the moment. That has brought back some memories :)

Crikey! I think we must have some famous people in disguise here.....all of whom are scrapping away. How else can you explain how all of you have had the opportunity to meet so many famous people? Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough....lol.;) I did meet one famous person briefly. It was 1960 and I was in the 9th grade.....totally not interested in politics. John F. Kennedy flew to our town to campaign and we had unofficial permission to go to town to hear him speak. Somehow, we were ushered close to the podium. When he came out and smiled, I instantly felt the charisma that so many felt towards him. I, along with my friends, started screaming. He looked at us and said, "Shouldn't you kids be in school?" Smiling as he did. I was suddenly "into" politics.
My daughter met Cuba Gooding Jr, Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis. She said Jamie Lee Curtis is very nice person. She even treated my daughter to food and drink. Cuba Gooding had an apt in her apt bldg in Studio City. She said he was very nice, friendly, polite and just down to earth. She now lives in West Hollywood and sees famous people from time to time. But she pretends not to see them or know them.....so as to respect their privacy.

Hey, Verleen, Studio City is about two miles from me. I go into that area weekly, and meet a lot of movie people. Small world.
Just the other day we went to Debbie Reynolds house. She doesn't live there anymore, her brother does.

Well, good grief, woman, you must let me know. It's only 10 minutes away. Ah, well..... Make it two hours because of traffic! LA, you know.
