it's pretty expensive... I remember the time (not so long ago) when filling my tank cost me only 20 $ !! Now with 20$, I don't even get half a tank. Pathetic.
Don't we have oil in Aberta ??? Why don't we (citizens of Canada) get a better price on our own products ??? I just don't get government...

Approx. $1.07 / L on any given day.
Winnipeg, MB

I'm in Alberta. :D
Like I say, it costs 8 million thousand dollars here. As far as I know none of the things we mass produce here are any cheaper for us than elsewhere, i.e. oil, beef, mullets, etc. I've read that mullets are like 5 cents each in Peru...
Probably if we moved to Switzerland we'd finally be able to get a decent price on some Canadian goods. :D
Und ze chocolate!
P.S. Desmond doesn't "on any given day" also mean like July 3rd, 1972? Wasn't gas was like a nickel per barrel back then?
Lets put all of these prices on the same scale US$ / Gallon:
Des Winnipeg: 3.65 / Gal
Jezza (Sydney, Australia): 4.71 / Gal
Jen Seattle, WA: 3.21 / Gal
KristyAnn Ontario: 3.40 / Gal
Rhoda Texarkana, TX: 2.79 / Gal
Bee: England: England uk, 6.95 / Gal
Corey Alberta: 8 million thousand dollars
So to put it all in perspective, don't drive an SUV in England!!! Also Texas has cheap gas :D

I heard on CBC radio that Alberta tries to keep the price of gas artifically higher than it needs to be. The higher the price of gas, the better it is for Alberta. Supposedly the oil sands up in Fort McMurray really start to become economically attractive compared to drilling when the price of crude is as high as it is now.
I remember just ten years ago thinking 49 cents a liter was a lot, and people were talking about how big of a deal it would be if it passed 50 cents. :)
One thing I don't understand is why so many stations these days offer a discount off their posted rate..."3.5 cents off at the pump" sort of things. Why not just put 1.04 on the sign instead of 1.07? Boggles.
Ah well...all the more reason to bike to work!
Ethanol is the future in my opinion.... Brazil is almost completely energy self sufficient due to ethanol: http://yaleglobal.yale.edu/display.article?id=6817
And from what I know of the midwest (USA) there is lots of corn.... lots and lots and lots.. I've seen the vast fields with my own eyes

North Hollywood, California, Unleaded (cheapest) $3.27/gallon. Feels more like an arm and a leg. Going to start using Don Perignon Champagne, it's cheaper.
Granny
Nearly all my son's wages goes on his car, between loan for his car (needs a newish one for reliability as he drives all over the country with his job), insurance and petrol.
Is it expensive for insurance for young drivers everywhere else, it costs about £2000 a year for my son.
Desmond
06-13-2006, 04:13 PM
Wow -- that's really expensive! In canadian dollars, that's just over $4,000. In Winnipeg, I know people who insure their cars for under $1,000.
Granted, we have our 'Manitoba Public Insurance', which in many cases is nice on the pocket-book -- just hope you never have to make a claim (having only one insurance company means that they always want to keep payouts low / non-existant, instead of just fighting the other insurance company for liability).

I heard on CBC radio that Alberta tries to keep the price of gas artifically higher than it needs to be.
Guaranteed this is true. We've also long had the highest insurance rates in the country. Auto insurance rates in Alberta contain more artifical inflation than the Goodyear blimp. Alberta has as bad a case of "old boys syndrome" as any location on earth. It's a real sin to see the way things are run out here. Our environment has sustained more related damage in the past two years than in some previous centuries and no one really seems to care or even notice for that matter.
Atom, doesn't Ethanol take prohibitive levels of energy to produce and refine? I may be wrong on that, I'm behind on my reading. Horses are the solution though. Good old fashioned loyal steed. With a horse and a skateboard I can get *anywhere*. And a boat. A horse, a skateboard, and a boat. The people who know me realize I'm not joking one bit.
Goats are good too. They geniunely enjoy pulling stuff around and they can find their own fuel anywhere. Goats are incredible animals. I would not hesitate to go to the 7-11 in a goat cart. I would not hesitate today, I would not hesitate in May, I would not hesitate in any way. [Dr. Suess flashback]

Hahah Granny, you are always good for a laugh :D
My daughter is 24 & because she is under 30, has to pay $1760 a year, I thought that was horrfic until I read some of the comments on here, she has no money left whatsoever once she has paid that, plus the Car loan, Rego, Petrol etc, I am amazed ao many young ones can afford it, I know I couldnt cope with that expense, seems like it is hard for all the young ones worldwide,I guess they must really welcome turning 30 as a bonus :)

I agree Kazr, it's definitely a tricky time to be young. It was way simpler when I was a kid and that wasn't even that long ago...

Hey,
yesturday, my cat was sitting in front of my patio door and I noticed je was looking very interestingly at something. I came next to him, and I saw a rabbit in my backyard. So my cat looked up at me... I opened the door and my cat went running after the rabbit like crazy through the backyard. But the rabbit escaped by going accros the hedge, and when my cat tried to follow him, I started screeming cause that would basically mean I would lose my cat, and he stopped and came back home. It was just so funny to see him run after that rabbit. I never actually saw my cat chase another animal, he's usually scared of birds !

My cat is a mouser, and a bird catcher, and a babysitter (two Chiguaguas that abuse him to no end). I keep telling him that he is to talk sense to the mice, and leave the birds alone. No good, he insists on violence and mayhem, then he puts them at my feet like a trophy!!!!
Granny
ps: Steve, I like your line... That's Friday night for us!

I am from Nova scotia and the gas was $1.23 a liter but has slowly dropped to$.92 a liter and that is nice to see. Gone are the daysat $.68 a liter a few years back.Oil went so high that I had to get rid off it and go electric thermal heaters where it heats at 1240 degrees at night when electricity is cheap and then the next day you have this nice heat that blows out fron the ceramic bricks. Reall nice.I had bought a new house and it had electric baseboard heaters and my bill was $1200 every 2 months. But with the new heaters it dropped to $700 every 2 months. A great savings. It seems like the world is going nuts.

I know eye, we live in an old house and the bills were awful. We finally added on to the house because we were adding on to our family as well and we decided to put in geothermal and the savings are incredible. The original cost was expensive but in 3-5 years we will have paid it off with the savings.

Yes we also have geothermal heat in our town but it cost $10,000 to have it installed. This one is made by the electric company and cost $5,000 for the two registers and one heats my whole house and one in the basement. It will soon be paid and then I will enjoy the savings.
May I ask where the picture was taken. The background looks familar.

Today was the first time I put gas in my car in 20 years, My DH usually does it for me but I heard gas was down to $2.14 and thougth I'd give it a try. Not only did I fill up my gas tank for $23.00 I used My Giant card (It's a grocery store here that for so much money you spend you get so much off at the pumps) and saved another 20 cent per gallon. $1.94 a gallon I paid! YIPPIE SKIPPIE. I guess I will wait another 20 years before I do thatagain. LOL:D
