Ladies-I'm sorry to say that I think there is something very wrong with me. I find myself downloading freebies all the time in hopes that maybe some day I will use them. I download every freebie I can get my hands on. Not only that but I am always buying new kits as well. Not just here but other places too. In fact it seems all I do is download, download and download. I never have time to work on any new LO's because all I do is hoard new things. This has to be some kind of disease!:( I download tutorials too, but I don't have any time to teach myself because I'm always downloading. I think I need some professional help. They must have a name for this. I'm sick, very very sick. Please someone help me---what should I do???? UGGGGH! I'm a download aholic!!

LOL .. I used to have the same disease but I sat back one day and thought about what I was downloading. Do I really like it? Will I ever use it? .....

Now when I download something it has to really grab my attention. If it doesn't, I don't and won't download. You have to have a very strong mental discipline, breath deep and say NO ...... This is a form of addiction. JUST SAY NO ......

Its tougher than most addictions because those you give up totally, but this you can't give up. You still need fresh material every so often. You need control ...... of course the other thing is, if you fill up your hard drive and don't have an external, you are kinda up the creek without a paddle.

The other thing you can do is go through all those freebies once a month and cut the not so ... WOW ... ones loose. Let them go free and hug a tree somewhere. BE free oh freebie, go live your life without rules ...... as you can see this method does have its side effect  my sanity is not what it used to be.

I am so glad to know that I'm not the only one with this strange illness. It came on me suddenly, about the same time I got the program. While i don't think its life threatening, it's definitely a real thing.:D:D

I had that addiction but I have managed to wean myself off it.:D The only problem is I then wish I had downloaded something and then can't findit. I wish there was a way SBM could store stuff for us to locate. I have several filing programmes such as Picassa , ACDsee and more!! That still doesn't help me. Much the same with documents at work I try and label them so I can locate them but I still waste time looking. Oh for a good memory :D

Thanks Doll, my heart skipped a beat when I read the heading!
Whewwww .... If ya find yourself overwhelmed, its ok to scream at the computer, they are used to it anyway. take a few deep breaths and repeat after me... I cant download EVERYTHING I SEE!!! Look at what you are going to download and ask yourself are you REALLY, EVER going to use it! If that answer is NO, do not... I repeat DO NOT hit that save button!!! then head over to the nightclub, get a rootbeer and celebrate!

PKDOLL, don't ever do this to me again!!!!! Holy cow, did my heart drop to my feet when I saw that heading!!!!!! lol...
I was like you in the beginning too...hehehehe...I found myself downloading everything...I now save what I think I will use...and here is a tip for all you addicts out there...

When I find something I really like, but don't know if I can use it right away...I made a folder in my favorites and titled it 'wanna be's'...and then when I find a thread in here I might want to use later...I save the link to that folder and title the link, (as an example for my free flowers) I would title the save as 'pretty flowers'...It's a nice way to find something I might need at a later time instead of downloading it right away...Just my two cents...lol...
Now, get some LO's going doll....<wink> Love ya..:p

Pkdoll!!!

First off, I'm right there with Wolvsie! You gave me a heart attack. I thought you have cancer or something. If you die... I'll kill you!!!

Second, make an appointment with Dr. Marion Quakers! She's really terrific, and I'm sick and tired of paying for her new yatch, new plane, trips to far off places, new car..... You pay her for a while.

And don't worry about this particular illness. It only comes on about a week before you visit my aile in the store and buy of every thing I have there. It's actually good for you!!!

;) :p

Let's see we have over 6000 members, that means this thread is going to expand to at least 3000 with the same ailment.

Oh well, all I can say is we are in this together.

And yes, your title of this thread worried me too. Don't scare us like that. We have had way too much illness around here.

I keep saying that I'm going to quit downloading too and then I find another site to bookmark and check everyday. There's so much talent out there, it is almost impossible to say NO!

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh, Doll, you are giving heart attacks all over the place! *grabs some of Granny's heart pills and gobbles them down*

Don't worry....after a while it will wear off...I did the same thing. In fact, I recently gave some of my folders a good housecleaning. Did I need this, would I use that...went through each thing with a fine tooth delete click. I have found I am much MUCH calmer now, not so much downloading without first thinking about the goodies and what I might use them for. I've also been using the same idea as I use in my closet...if I haven't used it in a certain amount of time, OUT it goes!

{{hugz}} to you!

Ohhh Girls I didn't mean to give out heart attacks. Next time I will use a better choice of words!! Wow! So many people with the same disease-I thought I was doomed. Steve I like your name for the disease. Now that I know what it's called I can go to Dr. Duckster and get help!! Don't worry granny-I probably will take a lot of therapy before I break this horrible addiction. **Popping heart pills** Girls don't worry you will have to put up with me for a very long time to come. Didn't mean to scare anyone. I love you all!!!!

Well I think we are all addicted. Mine is bad I like making things. Do you think they will call this a virus if everyone downloads my stuff and it fills their computer:D. I also download alot but after awhile I do a clean sweep and stuff I do not use I get rid of.Which reminds me I got to do that.:)

I am in line with everyone else doll, when I saw the title the first thing I thought was OH NO! But after reading, I was more like "Did she catch it from me???" LOL. I am getting much better, I am very selective now. But it is so hard to choose what to download. I am in the middle of cleaning things out as well. I have way way way too much stuff. Although I store mine on an external hard drive that has tons of memory, When would I ever use all that stuff. Plus it takes way to long to go through everything to figure out what you want to use. I even have it sorted into catagories like "frames" "lace" "Paper (that is divided within itself)", "Christmas" "easter", "beach/nautical" "ribbons/bows" Brads/fastener", etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc........ And then either broke it down as to who made it with in each catagorie, or added their name to the description. It is still too hard to decide what to use when you have so much, that I end up making my own, because I can't decide....another catagore "my objects". LOL

So now in between weeding at my house and my mom's house, I am weeding out the pc too!

Don't give up, there is hope!

I am so relieved to see others with the same complaint as me, when I first discovered digital scrapbooking I couldnt help myself & bought dozens of kits, I have so many cd's filled with them now, they are all amazing but I don't have the time to use them all, (I still dream of using them all in the near future) :)
You did scare me half to death with the title of this thread, but yes you got my attention, clever girl, & believe me,you are not alone!
hugs Karyn.

Sure! Granny says, "call the Duckter, she knows everything!" Putting all the responsibility on me to cure this mad mob!

But to tell the truth, I have in the past suffered from the same malady and download mania and I myself am still in the process of conquering it.
We have become a world of download junkies! Get a grip people!

Like others, with time, I am getting more selective in what I download. After all how many colors of red backgrounds do you really need, and how many roses will you ever use? Buttons can be recolored and frames can be altered.
After a while you kind of know what your style is and what you would use. The rest you either don't download it or delete it after you look at it.
You will get better in time, I promise!:D

Thank you Dukster!! I really needed that. I think that I will someday come to terms with the download illness and get a lot more selective in my choices. Whew!! I thought I was the only one that was so greedy and hoarding of goodies. But I already feel better knowing that I'm not alone. Thank you all so much!!

Yep. I had it too. I was a d/l junkie and filled the computer, then burned everything to CD's then DVD's, then bought an external hard drive, then a bigger EHD. lol! Now I want a 1TB EHD good grief. I am going to dump a ton of files and save that moola hahahahaha.

I am with Angelwithin I just design and don't have time to d/l or scrap anymore. lololol

Paula. you rogue! My heart sank when I saw that title. Glad that you are ok too. oh my!

Hugs to everyone with this addiction. it does get better. Clean out the old files and Just say no! Go print out a suduko or word find and sit on the patio with a cup of coffee.

I think we have all suffered from this disease at some time or another. When I look back now on some of the first stuff I downloaded - I wonder where on earth my head was - some is pretty bad and not worth the space and time and effort to download. This reminds me - I really should have a clean out on my computer of unwanted stuff.

I however - skipped the burning on to DVD and went straight to saving on external hard drives.

I must admit that I've been extremely lucky downloading the free stuff - I've not ever picked up a virus and never had a computer failure - touch wood. I've read many times where people have had problems with freebies - and picked up viruses - whether been from the files or simply just the sites themself. I guess you really need to have good protection and check you computer on a regular base.

I know limit the freebie stuff to only extremely good quality stuff and from designers I know well and trust. In actual fact - the free stuff I hardly ever scrap with. Bad habbit of downloading - look at it and think that's nice but never scrap it. Really I don't know why I do it.

What I do scrap with - is what I've purchased. I feel if I spent the money I ow it to myself to scrap it. Also CT teams are good thing - at least then you have to scrap 2 layouts. LOL - And Yes I do this sometimes on kits I really like on 1 Kit Calls. I can't help myself - even being a designer - I still love to scrap also. LOL

Is there any help for us sick people. Try saying to yourself - Am I going to scrap with this - if not - don't download it.

Like Carena, I do the external drive thing for all the freebies at first..then, like Marion, got more selective as to what I download..You can recolor frames, buttons, etc..So I stick to making shapes more than anything else!! LOL..

Good luck with the downloading frenzy we have all suffered from!! LOL...TOO FUN!!

HUGS!!
