I couldn't help myself I had to throw something together .. I had a ballon background..so I added some ribbons and text and I used the "balloon shape" in SM to shape the photo's. There are so many shapes we can use in there we can make photo's fit any theme...The red text area is just "add a papaer scrap to page" ..select a colour and choose "custom shape" and you can make your own balloons..............
So I did this one just for you. http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Flowers.gif .hope you like it or can use it to adapt to your liking.

Yes that's me Steve. I don't mind being teased, 'tis all in good fun! You guys crack me up. :D
Kode, I know what you mean, that's forums for you... I'm definitely not typical of the scrapping scene. :)
Anyhow since some seem curious I'll tell it like it is. I'm basically an artsy type. A vegetarian. I play music, paint, write, etc. Mid 30's, into healthy living, spend most of my time working. In terms of physical appearance I basically look like a random guitar player from a random rock band in a random music magazine. Skinny, long hair, blue jeans, confused expression... Not by design, just the way nature panned it out. :)

When I first came here I was really surprised to find any men into scrapbooking..... So you being "artsy" explains it... What sort of painting do you do? I used to be an Art teacher... Mainly folk Art and I have done trompe L'Oeil ( which I love) I think the artsy streak in me finds expression in scrapbooking as I don't get much time to paint these days.... I have many phot's of my paintings ( murals) on walls and doors and cupboards etc that I must scrapbook one of these days....Is there no end to subjects to scrapbook ? No! looks like I'll have to do a painting template.
You're right the forum guys are great and it's nice to "meet" you Corey and get tp picture who we are dealing with....

Well to be clear it's my job to be here, I'm the creative director for the company who makes Scrapbook MAX! But that being said, all my posts here are generally done on my own time and I genuinely like everyone I've met here. :D
I love Trompe L'Oeil. I was just admiring some pieces by Heinrich Füssli today in a book. Stunning. Some of my favorite stuff ever. :)
My main thing was cubism but I sort of took it into an area I called epicentrism which is merely a crude style of cubism. Here's an example, a piece I did called "Cowboy with Guitar" (acrylic on illustration board 40" X 20"). You get the idea, one central point from which the entire piece emanates. Nothing special, just a thing which struck my fancy. I also did a little realism and some other stuff. Particularly contes, here's a still life I did years ago (B & W conte on white construction paper 9" X 12"). As you can see I was about average-ish. Some basic talent but crude and lacking proper detail. I have very limited potential. I haven't really been painting and drawing much since I moved to Calgary a few years ago, I'm more into audio stuff now although I plan to get back to the visual stuff at some point, particularly photography and video this year. :)

Steve,
I just listened to your recordings and they are just wonderful! How talented you are.
Have you ever taken the chance to ask a musician how artisitic he is or an artist how musically inclined he is? You'll be amazed. We ask people this all the time and I would say 95% of the time these people are talented both artistically as well as musically even though they may tend to be more so in one area.
Just a thought,
Ladybug

I agree Ladybug. The brains of artistic people operate within a certain general realm and there's lots of room for crossover with art, music, literature, etc. for sure. On the other hand, try and find a good artist/musician who also has a love for bookkeeping. Hee! :D It's aaaalways a trade off.

Steve I loved your singing... Boy! we have a multi talented lot here don't we... Any talent we have is truly God's gift to us..
I will visit your site again too and check out more of your music..thanks for sharing that.
Granny.. you said you have never heard of trompe L'Oeil It is a form of painting that produces a 3D effect on a flat surface and is life size... Trompe is french for "Trick" and L'Oeil is french for the eye.. so it literally means to trick the eye....A great Trompe L"oeil artist will blow your mind .. you have to scrutinize or touch it to see if it's really just a flat surface
Try typing John Pugh trompe L'Oeil into your search engine ...I reckon he's up there with the worlds best.......where reality leaves off and the painting begins is hard to tell... He's an Australian Artist who lives not that far from me and a very talented man....Compared to him my work is pathetic but I have enjoyed painting my own house.
I had never had any training in Trompes but used to sell my artwork in several shops ( stores) and one day it dawned on me I had NEVER kept any of my work for myself - even my favourites ( aussie spelling there) I would keep something for a while but someone would want to buy it and i would sell it... I had seen trompe L'oeil in magazines and was busting to try it and I thought "If I paint on my walls - I can't sell it" I will have something to keep so off I went... I had just come back from a year in the country on a farm and was inspired to paint a Barnyard theme all through the house.. So I have a wierd house full of animals everywhere ( no! Not my husband and kids)
I am presently compiling an album of my murals so will upload it to the gallery when I get it finished

I'll post it soon but PLEASE do not think it's going to be anything like "the masters"....it's just my little attempt at it...
Corey
05-28-2006, 01:17 AM
Art is art and the more the merrier. So don't worry about it. Fact is that a lot of the masters didn't even paint like the masters. So...
They had legions of apprentices who did most of the work. Rembrandt is a great example, he apprenticed first for a guy who was mainly into Breugel and Hieronymus Bosch and really wasn't too hot of a painter. There's absolutely no sign of any influence from him in Rembrandt's subsequent work whatsoever. But Rembrandt worked for him for a few years solid anyhow... Of course credit for all that work went to the master, not Rembrandt.
And of course Rembrandt in turn had many brilliant apprentii who did much work for him and paid him fat lots of cash for the privilege of doing so which he spent on art collectibles that eventually got auctioned off at his bankruptcy. :)
So "the masters" were hardly bulletproof. I believe in time art experts will decode a lot of so called masterpieces and find that they were 85% painted by apprentice painters, etc. Of course there are exceptions, but... I think if you had a team of skilled students working for you, you could put out some amazing stuff too. I know I could. I'd be all like, "You call that a sunset?" :D
Anyhow that reminds me. One of the most interesting stories I ever read was about an apprentice of Rembrandt's. He was a young guy who they said was possibly going to be superior to Rembrandt and was fully poised to be one of the greatest painters in history. He'd only done a small amount of original pieces but they were amazing, and he was improving at a voracious rate under Rembrandt. Then he suddenly died in a freak accident in which a neighboring gunpowder shop exploded and burned down half the town. His paintings burned up also. I saw a portrait of him in a book he looked exactly like the character "Inigo Montoya" from the movie "The Princess Bride". Tragic story. Supposedly Rembrandt was behind him 100% and considered him to be one of the greatest young students he'd ever met.
Some believe that the fire was a cover up and that he had actually been killed by a rival because none of his paintings were ever recovered, etc...

Interesting post there Corey.
I think too that with srt ... beaty is in the eye of the beholder..there is art and there is art!!! What someone thinks is wonderful another thinks is rather weak.. So It allows for individualism..
I have just finished my album and am going to try and upload all the pages..15 in all aaaggghh!
Corey
05-28-2006, 06:22 AM
Yep, to be clear I have no problem with masterpieces being collaborative. If I like a piece then I couldn't care less how it was created. The only rub is when one guy takes credit for a team effort... That gets four thumbs down from my cat and I.

I agree with every thing you two are saying. Variety in styles is wonderful. It would be a mighty dull world if every one had the same talent or did every thing the same way. But, really, some so call "masters" live you wondering what they had for lunch the day they decided to work on some painting. But I like the work you guys do. Moonbeam, your wall paintings are just magnificent. Some day when I grow up I would like to try that out. Except that I would probably be arrested for defacing public properties with graffity.
And Corey, I love your glass painting. I could go on for an hour telling you every thing it tells me. Hmmmmm, well, ok, 45 minutes. :D

Yes the whole epicentric thing was just an idea I had. My perspective on the universe. :)
I made up some rules to create a style out of it, i.e. it all comes from one central point and you have to make the entire piece using only rays from that point or perendicular intersections of those rays, etc. There's a couple exceptions to those rules but that was the general idea. Here's a couple more from my epicentric period attached, 'Vamp.jpg" being the first painting I ever sold. A serious private collector too. I was shocked. I think it was the primitive nature which appealed to him. :D
Here's a more traditional cubist piece which was more or less the direction I was headed in at the time:
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/892/schism1wj.jpg
At the time I was just trying to get a feel for the medium and get a feel for the brushes. These were just excercises. :)

Naw I didn't give up Granny, for the past few years my life is all about my job, that's all. Although you'd never believe it to see my output. I know I'm capable of producing like double (or more) what I do but it's just a matter of conforming my life to a certain pattern - which will require me to turn up the self discipline knob a little. So that's the challenge right now, how to be better at my job. How to master the art of focus.
I'll go back to painting eventually, in particularly I plan to spend my golden years working on realism. Sculpting. And drawing. I figure skateboarding will be a bust by then, so... :D
