Sorry Ladies but....

EMILY IS HERE!!!!

We had alot of complications and she had to be taken by emergency C-Section Thursday. Her heart was doing some really weird things so we had to be in the hospital and by Thursday evening her heart was ranging from 201 all the way down to the mid 50 range. It took them all of about 15 minutes to prep me and her to be born. The cause of her problems were 2 fold...her umbilical cord was only 8 inches long and Our darling little girl was born with Down's. It is ok. Mark and I were shocked but are dealing with it best we can. She weighs 4 lb 14 oz, 19 inches long and was born at 7:17pm. I am going to email marion her pics so she can post them on here for me as I can't figure out how and I am on vicadin(Sp) so I feel really loopy. We just got home about an hour ago...Sorry I couldn't keep you all posted..please forgive me...It's been a very scary couple weeks for us here!

I know that Emily is truly one special girl. I know you were caught off guard with the "DOWNS" but I would like to tell you something....... I have known several down children and their families. They are truly a blessing to their families and all those around them. I am convinced that down children are truly little angels who were send to earth to touch each of us on the beauty and innocents of a child. As difficult as this has been, I believe that you will find a joy that few will ever experience or know. I am anxious to see that little angel and want to wish you all a life time of happiness!

It must have been a whirlwind of 2 weeks for you and so happy you are adjusting to the unexpected surprise of Downs. I too know 3 families with a downs syndrome child and they are all teens now and they have been the source of so so much happiness to their families they are considered a real blessing. Oh Emily is beautiful. Sorry to hear about the complications, but glad to hear you are dealing with it. My husbands cousin had a baby girl with Downs, and I also worked with a young woman with Downs Syndrome. She was a good worker and so funny, she liked to make us laugh.

I just wanted to get on to give you ALL a big hug from Emily and I. You have all become a big part of our family and made our home coming so much more special with all of your kind and gentle words.

A Very Special thanks to Marion for the LO...it is Beautiful, I am going to print it and put it in her baby book on the first page and I will tell her how much she is loved by everyone!!

So far Emily has been doing ok. She is a little yellow still and daddy is taking her to get her BR test done today (I wasn't sure how to spell it). She is having a hard time latching on the nipple sometimes but we are told that is normal but she is doing much better than most Downs babies..she must be she has gained an ounce so she is up to 5 pounds.

She has a home nealth nurse come in twice a week, and goes to see her doctor once a week. She has to eat every 2 hours which is why I haven't been on. Mark gets her up and brings her to me to eat....LOL...I can't get over the change in Mark since Emily has come home...he COOKS! HE changes diapers! he even does the laundry!!! If ya'll knew him before...you would know what a miracle that is in itself LOL!

I will try to get on later today to post some pics!

Yeah..tell me about the poppin part! I got a tickle in my throat today and OMG I thought I was gonna die! I'm gonna go see my doc tomorrow and they are supposed to pull the staples and put steristrips on it so hopefully that will help some!
She had to go to the docs today and she is up to 5 pounds 1 ounce! and she is only 17" long not 19 like they had on her birth card. Her Doctor measured her 4 times just to be sure he wasn't wrong lol...I didn't think she was that tall. She only woke up at 3am and again at 7am to eat last night so I finally got more than a few minutes of sleep at a time lol.
The only problem we have now is..finding clothes to fit her. She has a few Premie sleepers but I think we need to get some more

My daughter was very tiny and back in 1976, there was no such a thing as premie cloths, especially on my budged. I went to K Mart and bought my daughter several things from the toy section for baby dolls. It was cheap.

I was given a wonderful elasticated tummy wrap thingy [have no idea what it is really called] and I was amazed at how much that helped with things like sneezing, laughing, coughing etc. ALso was able to stop the pain killers way before they ran out. Its not exactly pretty and a good 12" wide and God knows how many feet long LOL ... but I didn't have a care in the world about the look. I was also taught how to cough from my diaphragm/lungs and not by using my stomach muscles by Tom, which helped so much. I got such a good guy here.

I feel for ya Wiz. I really do. It was a great relief to get them staples out, you will feel so much better.

Well Wiz, she looks more beautiful with each picture you post (you must be so proud of her). Didn't have the clothing problem with my premmie baby as she was six weeks early and still weighed 10 pounds 5 ounces, but alot of the other mums in the premmie ward used dolls clothes, cabbage patch, baby born etc but that was a long time ago (she sounds like she is growing fast though so don't go overboard LOL)
Anyway keep us posted, and keep well, and give that hubby of yours a pat on the back from me!

Liz, what a beautiful baby girl! I had both my daughters by C-section. The recovery time is so much longer than for a regular birthing. Take care of yourself. My oldest daughter was under 5 lbs. I had to fight to bring her home as they said she was too small. She was so squirmy that she would squirm right out of her too big clothes and diaper.....and we had a naked baby on the loose. Emmy Lou is growing very well. Thank you for the pictures. She is so precious.

My angie had a murmer when she was born..couldnt get insurance on her because of it.but by the time she was a yr old she had outgrown it..never heard it again..

We have the go ahead from the insurance company to start her therapy. Had meetings today with 3 of them. They are starting her out on occupational, speech and physical therapy
the speech therapy is to work the muscles in her face and jaw so she can eat better. She has been a stinker all week and has only been eating very little and not very often. Her Doctor said that it could be the downs but because she is so tired all the time he is thinkng it may have to do with something in her heart he won't take chances so he has been seeing her every day. We had to re do her newborn screening because when the Delivery nurses took her blood when she was born they didn't get enough! She is back down to 5 pounds 1 ounce:confused:
Sorry I haven't been on to post but I have snuck on to read when I get the chance and I will try to get on when I can. The rest of this Month is so busy with all of Emmy's appointments everywhere...I just hope I don't get somewhere and forget one of the kids when I leave hehehe.

Oh My mom got to meet Emmy for the first time on mothers day (also my moms birthday)...I got tons of pics because I know it is her last and I wanted Emm to know that her gramma loved her...it was a wonderful day.

But I wanted to post a pic of my mom. She is holding EmmyLou and the other 2 kids are my great neice Julia and her brother Aiden. This was taken on Mothers Day. If she had any idea put this on here she would KILL me lol. After I took ths pic she ran in her bedroom and put on a scarf! She called me a pisspot when I got there cuz I walked in the door and she was sleeping on the couch and I said " Get up Baldy, I'm home!" (I haven't seen mom since She was in the hospital in Feb getting surgery.)

Here are a few I took today. I am TRYING to get everyone in the house at the same time to get some family pics but it isn't working out so well. I will be getting a 4 generation pic tomorrow of Mark, Emmy, his mom and grandmom. And HOPEFULLY (keep your fingers crossed) some family pics when we get home.

Emmy has to see her heart specialist tomorrow..Please wish us luck that she's ok! Next Wednesday she has 5 therapists coming to the house, some to evaluate her and some to work with her.:eek:

The beautiful LOs are a lovely tribute to Emily and her family...;o)

I just returned to SBM after almost a couple months away...this was one of the first threads I read. There is already so much love in here that I felt I surely couldn't add much. While I was thinking about Emily and her loving family today...something in my own experience seemed to be worth telling.

The first child of a beloved aunt of mine was injured at birth by a shameless doctor...mentally she never grew beyond babyhood though she lived to age 42. Three boys came next and then the last was another daughter. All were loved and cherished...the oldest daughter was taken care of at home until her early thirties...not easy for my aunt but she was a strong woman filled with a sweet personality. My aunt and her second daughter were very close...they did so much together and shared so many good times until my cousin married and moved out of state.

When my aunt was in the hospital for heart surgery at age 65 one of her boys and his wife brought the dear "always" baby to see her Mom. She promptly went to put her arms on her mother and crawled into the bed and cuddled as cose to her Mom as she could...smiling and making the baby noises she still could only "say".

After "borrowing" large sums of money from her Mom which was never repaid the time came when my aunt had to say no to another request from her married daughter...BTW...this money was not for necessities. My cousin...who had the same amount of love as the "baby" and had the benefit of speaking and laughing with her mother...stopped speaking or writing to her...did not go to her sister's funeral................

Love returned to the giver is so sweet...it is the breathe of our lives...to be bright enough to get a college degree has little to do with the ability return love given. A couple thousand years ago there was a great teacher who advised us all to be as little children...;o)

We had the grandkids last weekend, and I was reading this thread that day...of course Drew asked about the baby in the pictures. I explained to him what was going on and what Down Syndrome is (he is 6 years old). He got real quiet...and then he said - "Ohhhh, then God must love her very, very much to make her so special, right Gramma?" Brought tears to my eyes. His Dad (my oldest son), was born with a handicap...his left arm is shorter than right and has club hand. We think it was the morning sickness prescription they used to give out at the time. When he was born, at my six-week-after appointment, the doctor said - "You might as well give him up and let someone else take care of him, he probably has other problems." I stormed out of that doctor's office, I was soooooooo angry (yes, I changed doctors immediately). That baby -- my son -- will be 28 years old on July 4, is married, has two gorgeous children and one on the way, and is almost to the top of the ladder at a big store. I'm only telling you about this because I believe that God blesses us in different ways...and some of us receive that grace in the form of special children that He gives to us.

I'm almost done, and I'm going to work on a credit's page, so that Emily will know who all contributed. Although I know that every one in this forum, whether you had a chance to contribute or not, really care about Emily.

Now, when I say I only need two more pages, that is not totally accurate. I can add many more, but it's only a technicality. I don't want the show to have a slide bar on the side, but I can certainly add if I get many more pages. So, please, if you do want to make a layout, by all means, do it. But don't wait to long. I would like to finish this cd before Emily applies for Oxford University!

So please, hurry!

Ooooooooooh thank you Granny, I was going to ask you about credits because I want Emmy to know who made them all for her. Everyone of the layouts are absolutely beautiful and something Emmy AND I will treasure for a life time I want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. I will be getting our family picture done tomorrow afternoon, had to ask a neighbor to take it while they are here camping lol. Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend!

Just wanted to add my Congratulations on the Birth of Emily.I am also sorry to hear the birth was so traumatic but you have a precious little daughter now & I am happy to hear you are all feeling better,please take care of yourself,thats very important, a new baby can be very draining :)
It's wonderful to hear your dear Hubby is such a help to you & Emily-it should make your recuperation an easier time.

Well Emmy had all 5 of her therapists come today. They worked with her for 2 and a half hours and tried to come up with a schedule that wouldn't tire her out..so this is what they came up with...she will get therapy 5 days a week for 2 hours at a time...2 therapist piggybacking each other. That poor baby is so pooped she has been sleeping since 7pm! LOL...Looks like no sleep for me again tonight..but that's ok.
She gets her hearing tests done tomorrow at 1pm....keeping our fingers crossed.

OH I almost forgot!

She SMILED for the first time today...and I didn't have my camera out:eek:

Oh, that's wonderful Wiz... So glad she is going to get all that care. May I make a suggestion? Get a book, and start reading to her right away. I know it sounds crazy, but it works. This is the time to stimulate her wonderfully young brain. You will be amazed! They recommend you even start while they are still in the womb. They really are capable of learning that early.

They also say to play mozart to children..they have done test and its been proven that it stimulates the brain also..we play it for andrew a lot..he likes it and gets relaxed when it plays..I know how much it thrilled you to see her 1st smile..she is just so precious..keep sending us the pics even if granny does have the slide show done..cant wait to see one of her smiling..your life with the therapist and nurses coming reminds me what our lives were like when andrew first came home from the hospital..let us know the results of the test..hugs jazz

Jazz, you can add as many pictures to the show as you like. Just look at the way the pictures are named, and name them in sequence. For instance, the credits page is #55. If you want to add five more pages, rename #55 to Emily_60.jpg, and the name the other ones Emily_56.jpg, and so on. Clear as mud? Oh well. The only problem with this is that the song will run out, but if you hit music on the top tool bar, it will play again.
