Hi kiddies...

I have put together a quick and dirty tutorial on how where to put your images for use in SBM and how to name, move and delete folders. Is in pdf format, about 2 mgs.

Please, don't expect too much. I did not have a lot of time to work on it, and I'm really not sure it's really what you guys wanted. But, please, check it out. If you can make some suggestions and constructive criticism, I can try to improve it.

Thank you for letting me do this for you. Oh, yes, I'm trying to upload it to my server. The link will be available shortly. The link I put here is not working, so please be patient with me.

Ok, here it is. I'm so sorry, someone hacked my website, and they put all kinds of terrible links in the guest book. Had to delete it. Was not able to upload any files there. The problem is now resolved, so here is the link to the tutorial.

Thanks Granny,

This the fourth day in a row that we have had sunshine in England, we are having a long summer:) :)

Oh, MaryL, you poor thing! There should be a law against excess sunshine, more than 4 days of sunshine a year is definetely profane!

I'm so sorry. We have been having sunshine all week in the afternoons. It's even gotten up into the low 90s. God help us.

If anyone around here has any snow, please, can you send it to rotten Southern California?

Thank you all. Have a great weekend, MaryL. Don't let the sun get you down.

Granny you can have ours. It was 34 here last night and my husband encountered snow flurries on his way back from Ohio last night! We would gladly trade for your sun!

Marion... I'll send a truck right up to get it, thank you so much. I loved the snow. Lived in it for about 18 years. Of course, it was not the type that last all year round on your front lawn. Although, last big storm we had, was the worst in 20 years. Was snowed in for four days, and had to hire someone to dig us out. It was awesome!

Steve.... Keep your heat, you Masochistic cook you! You probably b-b-q your steaks on the hood of your car! Not for me, thanks.

I think I will watch an old movie tonight with our pizza. One with lots of rain in it. (Friday night is movie and pizza night!!!!).

Wish you all a great weekend, even you Steve.

Hey Granny, I was raised in So Cal and lived in Santa Ana, Orange, and Anaheim area. DANG it's expensive to live there.......... I went to San Bernardino for 2 years but LEFT after the FIRE 2 1/5 yrs ago. Scared the crap out of me. Was evacuated with fire at the back door. NOW I am back in El Paso TX. Year round good weather and LOW cost of living. OH I LOVE IT HERE!!!

Granny
05-13-2006, 02:31 PM
Ah, Steve, great idea.... I'll be over for breakfast at 5am. Then, I'll joing you in the pool, but could we make mine a Dos XX? Dark one, preferably. Not that I'm picky or anything.....

OrieRN... Wow, that must have been scary. I know what you mean. Between the gangs, the earthquakes, fires, heat, smog, cost of living, and crazy turist, we take our lives into our hands every day!!! :D

Then they flash the six pm news, with these gorgeous sunsets and great looking weather, and every one and their mothers move here. Poor unsuspecting souls! :o

Actually, it is a beautiful state, and there are many nice things about it. But I honestly wish it would rain at least once a week. Nothing like a good storm to clear things up.

Oh, yes, and I live about 3 miles away from the Universal Studios and one mile from Burbank. Ok. Got to go now... Going to put the hose over the roof, in front of a window, and turn it on full blast. It will make it look like it's pouring outside.

Glad the tutorial is helping. Enjoy!

Squeak... Yes, please do. This is the fourth week with temperatures near or over 100 degrees. 109 last Thursday. At least 56 people in California have died of heat related problems. Our neighbors were without power for 2 days, and the rest of us had power cords going everywhere to help out.

I HATE SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who is the idiot that says global warming is not happening?

You would never convince anyone who lives here that global warming is not happening. All of our glaciers are receding at an alarming rate. I will look through my old pictures and see if I can find a now and then picture of the glacier I am going to.

Ah, Squeak, that's so sad. So far, 143 people are dead in California from the heat, maybe more. I'm staying in my little office with my a/c.

I would love to see those pictures!

You are most welcome.

Next week I am going down to Homer. My girls are going fishing with my dad. My mom and I will collect seashells on the seashore. THe 'beach' in Homer is not the same as a beach in California. We won't see bikini clad girls and boys getting the most awesome suntan, but if the weather is nice, we should get some awesome pictures of some sea otters, eagles, and of course some scenery shots. (The eagles should be teaching the babies how to fly and dive. It is fun to watch.)

BTW, if I post any scenery or wildlife pictures that you would like to use, let me know maybe we can swap some photos. :D

Hey, that is awesome! I have some pictures too that are nice. I also have hundreds of slides, but they are such a pain to scan. They scan nicely, just time consuming, and I don't want to take pictures of them. When I get rich and famous, I'm going to get me a professional slide scanner, at least one better than what I have.

Thanks, Squeaky!

Hi Squeak!

I just had to write when I saw you mention Homer!

I was there in 2004 -stayed at the "Land's End" at the end of the spit so I know all about the rocky beach. Went halibut fishing - a 45 pound halibut was the very first fish I ever caught, which was too cool. Alaska's so beautiful! Hope you all have fun on your Homer adventure!

Anyway, I better say something related to scrapbooking: so...uh...keep on scrappin'!

OKAY Newbies....... I want to give a testimony regarding Granny's suggestions. I was so happy when I read her instructions! Here is why.....

I started to apply your suggestions with making folders and storing them within the program. I've been doing it for a couple of months now and I found it to be very helpful. When I download pics from my camera, they automatically go into MY DOCUMENTS/MY PICTURES. From that file, I make files that suit the occasion then put my pics in the corresponding files. Example: I downloaded a bunch of pics from 7 different events. I made a file for each event then moved the pics into the folders. I then put those files over into the SBM folder of Digital Pics. The nice thing about doing it this way is that when I am working on a new scrapbook with an event theme, I am able to only open that one file with the pics for that event. This helps be stay organized when planning my new scrapbooks. It also saves on the RAM memory because your not opening a bunch of pics that your not currently using. I discovered that the RAM memory is very important and when your using your RAM up, it really slows things down. I am also receiving digital pics from family members from all over the country, and I am also making files for those and saving in that SBM digital picture file. It makes it easier to find what I want quickly.

Thank you Granny for the information you provided.

Hello

I am new to the group and have been reading so many of the posts and helpful information. When I got to yours and clicked on it for the Tutorial I was taken to an advertisement page and don't see the help with zip files. (www.Welcome to grannysbasics.com)

I am trying to download the free files ie the NOvember challege and when I extract the files onto my computer I don't know where I should put them. When I first downloaded them they went to Temporary Internet Files but I don't think I want them there correct.
Someone in another post said to download picasa which I think is a photo program which I already have Photo Shop
Elements. Can I use this? If so where do I put my extracted files too. Do a create a folder within Elements to read the new downloads??? I am trying to keep my files neat if possible and easy to find things so I am asking for guidance from the get go. :)

Thanks in advance for your help.
