Received this in an email and just thought I would share these thoughts/memories with everyone.....:) Please say its not just me who went through this otherwise I'll start to feel old or is that older? :p

TO ALL THE KIDS
WHO SURVIVED the
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants &children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and
NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because .
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day.
And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and kno cked on the door or rang
the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS!

oh yes I remember it all..and especially in the summer time after supper we went right back outside and played till bedtime..hide and seek, simon says, redlight, caught lighten bugs and put them in a jar to see who could get the most before we turned them lose.then to someones house for a drink of lemonaide and most of the time our parents would be out on porchs with neighbors just talking...and we were safe....friday nights in the fall we would get a few rolls of toilet paper from our houses and find a friends yard to roll..sometimes our parents even carried us, knowing the next day we would all go help clean it up..or else when our yard got it we would be on cleaning detail alone..then to someones house to make fudge or potatoe candy and listen to music..this was my favorite..going to my grandmothers house on a Sunday afternoon, cousins aunts uncles would be there..someone would go to the ice house and get a block of ice and let all us kids go..what a treat to go in that big cool house with those big blocks of ice..I can almost feel how cool it was.. and we made homemake ice cream..us kids fought about who got to sit on the freezer and who got to turn the crank..sitting on that freezer was the coolest place to be...no air conditioners then..families didnt just get together on special occasions or family reunions..oh well those were the good old days and sometimes I wish we could bring them back..sorry to get so wound up..just brought back some wonderful memories. thanks for sharing that :) :)

I've seen that before and it really confirms how mad the world has become.

I copied this and plan to put it in the boxes of our teachers. I work in a Middle School (JR High/grades 6-8) and I am always amazed at how these children behaive and the parents allow it!.

It's so sad because I remember my school days with fond memories!

Jazz, with a few exceptions, it sounded just like my childhood. We have this little black bugs back home, when you push their tummy, their eyes light up with a green glow! Just beautiful. We put them in jars also and made lanterns out of them, then turned them loose.

Ah, great times. We actually had to use our brains, made our own entertainment, played with mud pies and paper boats that went down the street in the rain. We made our own grocery stores, the black seeds from flowers were beans, the leafs were steaks, and so on. We never had it soo good as then.

Thank you for sharing those great memories.

couldn't agree more - it's just madness! And it's not how youngsters are - it's how we allow them to be.......

Yep I remember all those things to. (I have recieved this email as well) We didn't have computers, game boys, etc... to keep us busy. and TV...it was Black and White and we only got a few stations. We pretty much lived outside riding bikes, playing ball, climbing trees, playing hopscotch, tag, red light green light, I spy, etc..... I also had man made stilts. I loved those. Kids today have everything handed to them and don't appreciate things the way we did.

how about when you saved your bubble gum on your headboard so you could use it again the next day - it always tasted better 2nd time around

when the cheese you had on your sandwiches had the mould cut off and you didnt get a stomach bug from it

an allergy was what the one hypocondriac kid at school had and it was normally to bees!

soap was used on cuts and kisses were the plasters

and if you dared to curse in the street you knew any mother in earshot would clip you round the ear followed by a harder slap when your mum found out what happened

Oh, add in "reel to reel" "and 8 track tapes"....Showing my age here!

Yep the street lights were always when we had to come in. And one was right in front of my house. We did take a break from playing outside when it was time for "Dark Shadows" to come on...(they replayed that series a few years back and I can't believe we wanted to watch it). LOL

How about standing outside and calling for your friends to come out and play. Who needs phones????
Life was so much safer then. Didn't have to worry if it was dark out and could play in the streets.
