The JULY DESIGNER CHALLENGE is hosted by our wonderful and talented MICHELLE McCOY (wolvsie35)

Happy July everyone!!!!! I was picked to do another challenge for all of ya...I am hoping you enjoy this one, including my freebie...<wink>

This time I want you to Design with White..Um....Think of this: A plain white background is the little black dress of scrapbook pages...Always simple and elegant. When I'm lost (which happens a lot these days...lol) and not too sure on what to use as a background for a layout, I use white... Why not, right? It is always staring you in the face...LOL...

So with that said, here is your challenge... If you choose to accept it...

Make a layout using a white background.
Use at least two items from my freebie (download is available below). You may use other items found in our forum here at MAX... Please credit those special people in the gallery if using someone else's items.

Simple enough? Yeah well, I was planning you to think that, so here is a twist...LOL...You don't get off that easy...:D

When adding your photo, don't use the original, turn it into a work of art..Try using different techniques like water color, sepia, etc, omg there is so many to try...You will have fun experimenting, trust me...Trying new things is exciting...<wink>

Upload your layouts to the gallery and post the link or image here so we can all see...

BUT WAIT!!!!!! I'm not finished yet!! LOL...There will be a contest held at the end of the month. I will get all the layouts you submitted together, and have you secretly judge on them and the top three will win a FREE kit from my store..Your choice even...lol...So the more you make, the more chances you have...:D

So...Um... what are you still doing here? Upload your freebie and start scrappin'! Oh and btw, ignore the file name, I mispelled it...LOL((HUGS)) and enjoy...Can't wait to see what you all can come up with..hehe

06-30-2009, 11:05 PM
....and here is my example...:D

06-30-2009, 11:45 PM
WOW Michelle, will have to put our thinking caps on for this one, looks like so much fun, thanks for the freebies :)
hugs Karyn.

07-01-2009, 07:57 PM
I just took this picture Father's Day and had no idea what to do with it. Thank you for the challenge! This page will go in my mother in law's Alzheimer's scrapbook!

07-01-2009, 09:02 PM
This was before I had a digital camera and was the only photo from that day that turned out because it was so dark and they were all moving constantly. Thanks for the freebies, Wolvsie! I hope you don't mind that I changed the color just a bit darker.

07-02-2009, 04:05 AM
The girls were being frightful, didn't want to agree to anything and were doing the "she touched me Mum" style behaviour. All I wanted were some pics of them together. They couldn't decide if they loved or hated each other at this point. They get on most of the time, it was just one of those days....... Used film grain to alter the photos.
Thanks for the freebies. the frames are mine that were posted to the embellishment forum the other day. The Ficifolia flowers and gumnuts fitted the colour scheme very well I thought. Will try to do another one at some point if get the chance.

07-02-2009, 09:29 PM

I can't tell you how much everyone who contributes here inspires me. To think that we can use the same colourings and embellishments and come up with so many fantastic combinations just amazes me every time I come to the forum. I love what everyone else creates and it just gives me so many ideas to try. Thank you everyone and thank you to SBM for giving us this forum to share. I am off for the weekend and will get some more scrapping done for relaxation.....

Very cool pages everyone!!!!!
I know I am late with the second half of myy challenge... and I apologize...Life is just getting in my way these days!!! LOL...better late then never, right? At least that is what my parents always told me...hehe....:)
Anywho, you can still make pages for the 1st part of the challenge throughout this month...But here is my freebie gift for this part of the challenge...

Using this kit, make a layout (or more...lol) using multiple papers for your background. (example is found on my sample page)
Your photo must be in black and white, or a color tone to match the color scheme...(also attached).
You MAY change my items using the hue and saturation to fit the color swatch as well...make shapes, embellishments, frames, etc of your own as long as you are only using items from my kit...

Upload them to the gallery and show it off here in this thread..Remember, everyone will be judging these at the end of the month, and the top three winners will receive a prize from me...Cool huh?

Send your friends here to get involved!!!!!!! The more the merrier...Can't wait to see what you all come up with...((HUGS))
Here is my page...

07-18-2009, 08:56 AM
Here's mine for this part

07-18-2009, 09:24 AM
I am a little late, but this is for the first part of the July challenge.

The fireworks are from Mangles, the Word Art, I am not sure. The makers name was not listed in the name of the word art, sorry. The paper I started with a color paper, made it gray scale then lighted and brightened till it became white then added some effects.

The other items are from Wolvsies freebie for the challenge

I made 2 copies of the photo. On one I used the edge effect, on the other I used emboss. Then lowered the opacity of each so the original photo would show through.

Valerie, I see it doesn't take you long to get involved in the fun stuff here...lol...Both layouts are wonderful...Love the things you did with the papers...Great job...

My daughters first baby was born on 25th May 2000, we got to hold Tenae Linsay for 3 days before she passed away. She was a miracle and we thank God she came into our lives everyday. She strengthened the bond between us all and so had fulfilled her purpose here. So this is in Memory of Tenae Linsay Green-Potter, Our Little Angel.

07-20-2009, 04:25 AM
We had 2 of our grand daughters for part of the school holidays. It was freezing and the sun had no warmth in it at all, but we put on hats, gloves, winter coats and snuggy boots, so we were warm as toast.....

07-20-2009, 06:17 AM
Well here is my entree, did a bit of watercoloring for the photo.

07-20-2009, 07:55 AM
Summer 2008. Courtney was day dreaming away, off with the fairies, so hard being 12 with the weight of the world on your shoulders. I have to chuckle though, when Courtney was little she would take out dry biscuits and set them on gum leaves under the gum tree to feed the fairies so she used to say, she was always so amazed when the biscuits would be gone the next day, of course the birds had a field day, but she was convinced the fairies had taken her offering. I don't suppose I helped though, after all we had little china houses in amongst the garden for many years, and I used to tell the girls there were fairies in my garden, it was lovely while it lasted.

Imajo, I hear the weather was a bit rough over your side of the country today, we will get it in about 2 days time in Vic. Love your layout, what a gorgeous little lady you have with you.

07-20-2009, 11:28 AM

Really liked the colors for this one. Thanks again for another fun challenge! This is my daughter (on the right) and her friend. Soon to be 16....AAAGGHHH!

07-27-2009, 02:25 PM
Fantastic page!!!! Lovely girls too...The dots on her suit pop out...:D

07-28-2009, 05:31 AM

I had fun with this. I used crackle and sepia to make the picture look older. Then everything that could be crackled I crackled. I used that stars paper from the For the Love of Freedom. Unfortunately, for some reason, I couldn't crackle it. I used it anyway because I thought the color behind it made it pop a little more.

I still can't figure out how you are getting the images in these posts if someone wants to let me know how to do that! :)

07-28-2009, 05:40 AM
Sorry this is a repeat...I don't know how to remove the other one and my attachment didn't work! ;( Sorry

I can't figure out how to paste the image in her if someone wants to help me with that. I don't have urls for my pics.

Anyway I used the crackle effect on everything that would crackle. I used the paper from the "For the Love of Freedom" it wouldn't crackle but I thought the color made the rest of it pop.

At first it would not attach but then I saw it was too large so I coompressed this like it was for web pages. It wouldn't print well but you can still view online okay. Do you ever do that?

07-28-2009, 05:47 AM
Hope it is ok to change the colors of the embellishments. I wanted them to match the photo. Couldn't bring myself to add an effect to this photo so I added a window instead.

How do you change the color of the embellishments. Did you do it in a different program?

Please share! :)

07-28-2009, 06:37 AM
Hello All,

Really wish I knew how to insert them.

But it is attached.

Hi Memphis, your pages are wonderful....to answer your questions...
How to post your layout here...Once you upload it into the gallery, there is a UBBCode right underneath your photo...click on it and the link will turn blue...I then right click on it, and then click copy...then in your post, click paste and the image code will be seen...Thats it, when you submit your post, it will show...Do preview post if you want to make sure...then u can always make changes....Hope this helps...I enclosed them here for you...

Now for changing colors...In scrapbookmax...You bring in your paper or element and then click the effects link at the top left of the program...A drop down menu will show up and the last one is advanced, click on that....a new box will appear and you can use the hue and saturation to change colors...there are other cool ideas in there as well...Just play around to see the different things you can do....

Thanks for joining in this challenge...and good luck with the contest sweetie...
