The Groove
03-01-2009, 08:07 AM
Welcome to The Groove's Monthly Freebie Challenge!

Hello from The Groove, Scrapbook MAX!'s *free*monthly newsletter. (http://www.scrapbookmax.com/thegroove/)

Each month, a featured designer offers a great freebie mini-kit and issue a challenge based on that kit.

All you need to do is download the freebie, create a layout that steps up to the challenge, upload it to your gallery, and post a link to your layout in a reply to this thread!

Details about this month's freebie and challenge are below!

The “Freebie” Part!

Crystal Longbrake has provided an elegant set of freebies that is sure to add sophisticated pizazz to your layouts!

The “Challenge” Part!

Here's the fun challenge:

Use at least three pieces from the freebie kit and create a layout. Share it in this thread. Find the freebie attached to this post, plus additional elements posted throughout this thread on March 1 - see “BONUS CHALLENGE” description for the exciting details!)

** BONUS CHALLENGE**: The challenge described above lasts the whole month of March, 2009. HOWEVER -throughout the day on March 1, 2009, Crystal will be adding more elements to the freebie kit in this thread (about 2 elements every hour from 1pm-5pm central time!).

Be sure to check in every hour or so and download even more freebies! And not only that, if you post a layout that steps up to the challenge by 8pm central time on March 1, you might win a free kit of your choice from Crystal’s selection in the store! Crystal will be randomly selecting a layout posted on March 1 by 8pm CST, so get scrapping!

* * * *

Be sure to check out the March 2009 issue of The Groove (http://www.scrapbookmax.com/newsletter/2009/03/the-groove-march-2009/). You'll find gorgeous friendship layouts to inspire you, a 10% off coupon for this month's featured Booster Pack Store kits, and more!

FYI..........1st download said it downloaded 9 files, actually only downloaded 2 files, and the 2nd downloaded had zero. Not sure why .

The recently added freebie BotanicallyYousAddOn2--when you click on it to run it says 0 files added? Did I do something wrong or does the file not work right?

So far between the two downloaded files I have one paper <beautiful> and two PNG embellishment files and a complete alpha.

Thanks, Crystal!

Just downloaded the freebies from post #7 and #8 successfully!

(What - did you think we at The Groove wouldn't also get in on the fun? :D)

Remember - Crystal will be randomly selecting a layout posted today (March 1) by 8pm that steps up to the challenge - the winner will get a free kit designed by Crystal.

Ready, Set...SCRAP!

Have Fun!

Something has come up and I've got to run out, so here's part 4, 1 embellishment and 1 paper scrap. Don't forget to come back for part 5 at 5:00 (my time-Eastern)...you'll be glad you did!

Hehehehehehe! This is fun, Crystal! You be sure and come back! :D

By the way... you know your alphas are in each of the files, don'tcha? We're getting folders that say "Embellishments" (folder inside that one with alphas/numerals), "Paperscraps" and "Shapes." No shapes in shapes, is that correct? Just checking on all of this. :)

You must have a magic touch. My folders have had 1 element and the preview in the embellishment folder and 1 paper and the preview in the paperscrap folder. There's no additional folders in any that I have downloaded. Guess cause March is St Patricks month, the little gremlins are having a ball with us. If anyone catches one of them, find out what they are doing.

And thanks Crystal for whatever is there.........

Hehehehehehe! This is fun, Crystal! You be sure and come back! :D

Double-checked ... yep, I think they're yours (see attachment) ... at least they seem to have your trademark initials all over them in the files.

I'm thinking you are sending some of us a few leprechauns to go along with the goodies. :D

ROTFL!!

But I will use what I'm SUPPOSED to for this, hehehehe :p

Alright ladies...part 5 has 5 embellies and I'm posting at 5 'o clock my time (a little past by now since I forgot to hit UPLOAD)...weird huh? I swear, that's just how the cookie crumbled LOL. Anyways, I'm busy working on my layout, are you?

DigiScrapalicious
03-01-2009, 03:20 PM
LOL, they're from my Cupid's Cottage kit...sneaky little guys! I tell ya, my booster pack builder hates me...it's evil I swear!! Oh well, enjoy, it's a cute alpha, totally doesn't match the rest of the booster pack but cute just the same :)

Step 1: Publish, choose the "for web" option :)

Step 2: Come back to this thread and declare yourself LOL by attaching the layout to your post :) You do this by scrolling down past the text part and clicking the "manage attachments" button.

Step 3: Find your published layout and click UPLOAD. (I always forgot that part. And ta-da you've entered the challenge!

Thanks for playing, I was a little scared no one would show up when I signed up for this gig hehehe.

I couldn't resist playing. I did not take this picture but love the contrast of beauty and destruction. Thanks for the beautiful freebies. I hope I used the right elements. I had the "wrong" alpha on my page <recolored> so took that out and redid a few things.

I am new here and I don't know what to do with my page that I have created. Can someone help me..

Did you make your page in Scrapbook MAX!?

If so, here's one way that you can share it in the challenge thread (I see that Crystal suggested an alternative way in an earlier post - that works too!):

Open up your project
Choose File > Publish To > Images from within Scrapbook MAX!. Select the options for High Quality and Web/Email size. This is important!
Upload it to the Gallery. Click here (http://www.scrapbookmax.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1374) for a tutorial on uploading to the Gallery.
Find your layout in the gallery, and click on it. Below your image, you'll see a box labeled UBBCode. Right click on the text and choose "Copy" (or simply write down the image code).
Now, all that's left is for you to post a new thread in this forum and show off your layout. Right click in the message box and choose Paste (or type in the image code that you wrote down)
.

Hope that helps!

Karin :)

Call me slow but when I go into the publish I do not have the "for web" option

Karin
03-01-2009, 04:05 PM
Hi!

Go to File > Publish To. Then, Choose Images from the dropdown that appears.

After you choose Images, you will see a box like the one in the attachment to this post. This is where you can select High for quality, and Web/Email for size.

Does that help?

Crystal, your work is just stunning! Thank you for such awesome freebies and the challenge! Here is my page:

My paternal grandparents on their wedding day in 1917. I never knew Grandpa as he died 15 years before I was born. But I was fortunate to know Grandma. She still spoke Plattdeutsch, and if any of us cousins wanted to be able to understand her, we had to learn -- which I did!

Thank You.....Could you tell me how to rotate items, when majing a page?

Mim
03-01-2009, 05:40 PM
when you select the object put you mouse up by one of the corners and move it til you see a curved arrow... when you see that just hold the mouse down and turn it to where you want it...

DigiScrapalicious
03-01-2009, 05:44 PM
Rotating items...I'll give it a shot...select the item you'd like to rotate. You should see boxes show up in each corner of the item. Hoover your mouse around one of the little boxes until you see an arrow going in a circle. Then hold down the right side of your mouse and turn it in the direction you want your object to go. I stink at giving directions, I hope I helped...

.....How are all these Pretty Elements made, for the Scrapbookmax program?...

A lot of us designers have several graphics/imaging programs we use. Like I use a combination of Paint Shop Pro, Real Draw Pro, Gimp and a couple others. I've had them for years because I'm a graphics designer by trade anyway. There are really a LOT of graphics/imaging programs out there, almost too many to choose from! :D

No need to do ZIP files... just download the SMB file, saving it to the folder you want, change the file extension to .zip, then RIGHT CLICK on the file and choose "Extract Here" ...the goodies will be right there for you :D Also works for the SMT file format :D

Hey everyone. I'm back with SM. I took quite a bit of time off from it. No specific reason, just doing other things. Anyway, here is my first attempt at it again. Something is wrong with my computer and my SM software that I haven't figured out yet so the photo is missing. Just imagine a soldier with his wife, son, and pumpkin balloon (how we got his attention). Hopefully I'll be able to repost soon with the actual image in place.
