Hi everyone,

Yep, you are stuck with me this week! Hope you enjoy the challenge.

My second hobby is Genealogy. It is actually my first by I got side tracked with scrapping LOL! Genealogy requires a lot of research, but it can be fun. So my challenge this week is to have everyone do a little research of their own. think of some one that you would like to know a little more about and do some research and scrap that person. This should be some one (in history) that is famous for something. (Samples: Artist, composer, Inventor, Scientist, King, Queen, President...It could be someone "Infamous" as well, but please keep it clean...LOL!

My Rules for the challenge are:

1. Do a layout on a Historic Person. This must be someone in history prior to 1900.

2. Download my kit and use at least 4 items from this kit. You may alter my items as necessary to match other items you choose to use.

3. You must Journalize at least two facts about this person but may use as many as you like.

4. If possible, try to use at least one photo or sketch of the person. If you can not find a usable (not copy righted) photo, try finding a photo of something they are famous for.

5. Post your layout to the gallery and to this thread.

Anyone willing to do this challenge will recieve another kit after the challenge is over.

Please remember to give credit to other items you use.

Here is mine. I have always been fascinated with Jack the Ripper. All the experts have their own theories, with substantial ideas, but I think there just aren't enough pieces to the puzzle to ever come to a 100% conclusion as to who the cold blooded killer really was.

I did have to do a little editing to some of the embellishments I used, this kit was too pretty for the likes of Jack the Ripper, lol.

Here is another one. Abigail Dean Cardozo was one of America's first female photographers. I had read a little about her in college but found out more about her as I did this challenge. The part about her being forced into marriage at the age of 14 then later leaving him and starting her own photography career is awesome to me.

That is a really great layout! I was thinking of doing her too, there was a TV special on last night about the Lincoln's, it was really interesting. Some counterfeiters tried to steal Lincoln's remains to hold as ransom. Pretty neat stuff.

After Lizzie Borden and Bonnie and Clyde, I think we need some happy music. Here is some free MP3 links to John Philip Sousa's music.

http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/audio_resources/discography/semper.htm

I wanted to feature John Philip Sousa, one of my favorite musicians. Mr. Sousa was born in 1854, so he lived the majority of his life in the 19th century. He died in 1932 in my town at a hotel that is still operating in the center of Reading, PA. He was to be a guest conductor for the Ringgold Band. This band is still performing each summer in a local park (with different people of course).

The only additions to Sacannon's kit is the music from Camille Pangburn at Digiscraps Depot and the star from Liz Thompson at Scrapbytes.

Hey, Grannywin! I know him! I won the John Philip Sousa award my senior year in high school. And I never even thought of him.

I did do one of a local "hero" or "terrorist". Depends on how you look at him. His methods were extreme and violent but his views on the world were ahead of his time. Harpers Ferry isn't far from my home. The grandchildren & I love to visit and go hiking there. "John Brown's Body" is the original name of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and was a Union fight song during the American Civil War. The 1850 Census page is a scanned copy of the original census page. The pen points to John Brown's name with his chilren listed under him and on the next page. If you could actually SEE it (sorry, I had to make it smaller) you would see others above him have occupations such as farmer. John Brown has no employment listed. Guess it wouldn't have been a good idea to tell the govt (that thought you were a traitor) what you really did.

Here's mine: QUEEN VICTORIA

This is my submission for sacannon's (Sue) week 56 challenge. I've always been fascinated with the royalty of Great Britain, and Victoria is one of my favorite *subjects* to read about. In case you are unable to read the specs, it says: "Full Name - Alexandrina Victoria, b. 24 May 1819 Kensington Palace, London, d. 22 Jan 1901 Osborne House, Isle of Wight, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death"

From one genealogist to another, THANK YOU, SUE, for an excellent challenge! And thank you for the kit -- you did a GREAT JOB!! Except for the photos (from books) and the word art (made by me), all the items used are from Sue's freebie kit for the challenge.
