I have succeeded in getting the wheelchair services here to agree to supply my husband with a semi-motorised wheelchair.

A few months back they refused him one saying that he did not meet their criteria. I challenged them on their decision and today took Stephen for a further assessment and they have agreed to supply the motorised attachment for him.

It has taken 4 months to get them to change their minds and it will probably take another 2 to actually get the part, but oh success is so sweet sometimes. At least now he will have a little bit of freedom from being cooped up in the house.

Good for you Vanessa for not giving up......I cannot believe that they even made you fight for such a thing. Like we all can't wait to get a free wheel chair..........I do not understand this world of our's . It is hard enough that your poor husband is sick, but to challange him on such a thing is awful. Hang in there sweetie .......you are a good wife and friend to that man of yours.............xoxoxo

Wow, all of a sudden the Wheelchair Service have jumped up and done something. I got a call this morning and they will be coming out in 3 weeks time to fit the attachments and the motorised wheel to Stephen's wheelchair. That is so brilliant and it will make getting him out and about so much easier.

Now I won't have to struggle anymore trying to walk with crutches and push a wheelchair at the same time. Just doesn't work. Now I will be able to walk by myself and make his wheelchair go by itself.

Great result, amazing in fact, the red tape usually prevents things running smoothly in this country ! Good luck and here's to a less stressful future :)
