Welcome to The Groove's Monthly Freebie Challenge!

Hello from The Groove, Scrapbook MAX!'s *free* monthly newsletter. (http://www.scrapbookmax.com/thegroove/)

Each month, a featured designer will offer a great freebie mini-kit and issue a challenge based on that kit.

All you need to do is download the freebie, create a layout that steps up to the challenge, upload it to your gallery, and post a link to your layout in a reply to this thread!

Details about this month's freebie and challenge are below!

The “Freebie” Part!

Carena Scott has generously supplied a freebie collection of cool "buggie" elements based on her full kit, Bugs Delight, to all our Groove readers. Carena describes the full kit this way:

"Delightful pack for any child. Whether it be for photos, party invitations, birthday cards, book labels, tags - limited only by your imagination. Fabulous fantasy children’s kit. Huge - 60 items in total."

Find the freebies, attached as a .zip file, below!

The “Challenge” Part!

Carena has issued this challenge based on her freebie collection:

Using elements from the mini kit provided, make a birthday card, present tag, invite, label, bookmarks etc – use your imagination! "Normal" layouts also welcome but I’d love to see other alternatives for using scrapbooking kits. Also rememberto use shapes ( hearts, stars etc) which will give you more to work with and makes layouts more interesting.

Hi all. Yet another new month and christmas is fast approaching. A little to fast for my liking. LOL.

Hope you enjoy the mini bugs delight and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Other ideas for projects - bookmarks, door - do not disturb hangers, xmas decorations, folding cards and pop ups, birthday cards, placecards, thank you cards, banners, invites, chocolate rappers, boxes, gift bags. All manner of projects. Oh I can't wait. :)

Fun challenge Carena

i made a couple of bookmarks ...have added the template ;)

11-01-2008, 07:56 PM
I have not been able to participate in a challenge for a while. Sorry Carena this is only a scrapbook page.:p I have wanted to scrap these pictures for a while and this mini kit seemed to work. Thanks for the incentive. Only your mini kit and SBM shapes were used. I used a non-Christmas tree shape because it seemed more modern and fitting. Now that I have done this page maybe I can be more true to your challenge request.

Thanks for the bugs Carena.... I think??? LOL Let's see what I can come up with...got a whole month....right...oh man, I am getting buggy......lol

I made my previous page into a placemat. The photo area could be used for photos, Holiday recipe, memories, or special message.

11-01-2008, 10:42 PM
Placemat is a great idea (normal scrapbook pages are also very welcome - you know that)

Fiona - thanks awesome bookmark. Already all so busy - sorry I have't had a chance yet - School swimming pool opened this weekend - we are coming into summer - he he - sorry guys who are feeling the cold. :p Caitlyn had 2 1/2 hours there yesterday and another 3 hours today. Doesn't leave me much time for anything else. Hopefully tonight I get on to that TURKEY challenge of Donna's.

Keep them coming - loving doing these challenges and seeing everyones wonderful work. :)

OK, I made a heart shaped mini-album for this challenge. I wasn't sure how to get it all on one page so I hope this will do. The credit for the shapes are in the gallery. The album ends up about a 4x4. Thank you Carena, for the goodies to make this.

Well, I figured out what I wanted to do, so here is the template for the mini book all on one page. The previous template is for them as an individual page.
Well I can't get the template to upload, will try later.

11-03-2008, 10:41 AM
Wow, such terrific ideas here. It always amazes me the different way to use scrapbooking. Thanks all.

11-04-2008, 09:12 PM
Here is my sample. Embellishments from Carena's Bug's Delight kit. I haven't figured out how to upload the template. Will try uploading it later.

Thank you for this wonderful sample.

11-04-2008, 10:41 PM
Wow! Such a cute layout! Can you share the file with us?
This is my first reply though I've lurked a few times. SO,please, forgive me if it's a no no to ask. I saw other members include a file with their layouts. I really liked it. Natalie

11-04-2008, 10:51 PM
I've tried to upload the template but apparently it is too large. If someone can tell me how to reduce the size I will be happy to share it. I'll try taking out the photo and see if that works.

Does anyone know how I can reduce the size inorder to upload the template?

11-04-2008, 11:01 PM
I think I have it now. Please let me know if you have any problems with it.

11-05-2008, 03:01 PM
All materials from the kit, except the index card, from Kim B's surprise birthday blog train kit Gratitude.

The alpha I used for his name is for free during November - see the Groove's November challenge forum.

Don't know if anyone can use these. I thought maybe some emergency cards for kids might be nice. I did two types.

Don't know if anyone can use these. I thought maybe some emergency cards for kids might be nice. I did two types.

Did you know this is what I needed?? THANKS!!! Each year my husbands family draws names for Christmas gifts and for 13 years I have been making the name tags on the computer to make them cuter! This year I was going to try them in SBM and I was just about to ask if anyone has a business card template with 8 or 10 on a page. I know I could have made one but I think this is more fun, lol!
Thanks again!!

11-06-2008, 07:40 AM
Glad you can use them, You can change out the papers or add other items as you like too. That is what is great about the templates.

11-06-2008, 12:15 PM
Some great ideas coming through. Really like the idea of an emergency card for children.

Yes - please do us your kits for christmas gift tags and labels - even make your own personal business cards with them. Ideal to give when someone wants your phone number instead of writting on a scrap of paper.

Keep the creativity coming. Of course normal scrapbooking pages are also welcome. :)

11-08-2008, 04:52 PM
I have tried so many different things to upload as a template but my file is still too large. It has been over a yr. since I tried to upload a template & forgot about the file size. I have never used a file share & I don't know where to start. Also, these are Carena's designs not mine. So if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it as I would like to share...

11-08-2008, 05:06 PM
I had to re-size a few of my items to get mine to go through.

11-09-2008, 10:31 AM
I resized alot, saved portions as a jpg. pulled back in, optimized & it is still too large..

I do have a question if anyone can answer... I originally made the size of this 8 x 11.
When I go in & change size, smaller with the same proportions, why is my working screen not the same? Sometimes it will be the same when I resize, other times it won't.. Doesn't make since to me...
With this one when resizing, my LO does not fit the page correctly...

11-12-2008, 06:57 PM
Okay here is my attempt, used the kit to make my son's save the date cards for his wedding....I used the template that TNLori shared in the forums and just changed it to suit....haven't added the photo's in this sample, but it looks great in the one I sent out

11-13-2008, 09:27 PM
Here is my November challenge. I stuck with a layout. My little Grandson Nathan in 1999.

11-14-2008, 12:01 AM
Great page Marion - what a handsome young man. Wonderful

Nanwu - lovely seeing scrapbook kits used for other things other than just scrapping. The cards look great :)

Gotart - maybe you need to check the % of the view that you are viewing on the bottom right hand size you can change it. Maybe this is the problem. Anyone else with ideas on this matter?

Keep the pages coming - does anyone make homemade preserves, jams, sauces . Also great for labels for presents. But please by all means scrap a normal page - everything is very welcome :)

11-23-2008, 12:05 AM
I am no sure how to do cards yet so hope this is ok for now.
The violets remind me of Grandmas.

11-23-2008, 06:08 AM
I love your page layout. Such a cute idea G is for grandma. I have some African violets in my home that started with my husband's grandma so they are heirlooms. I should do a similar page for sure. I have a dark purple, light purple and a white violets. Thank you so much for this idea.

11-24-2008, 02:40 AM
