[FONT="Comic Sans MS"]Hi everyone...Sorry for not participating here as much...But more medical issues came up again...My Neuropathy in my feet and legs have gotten worse and one morning (about a week and a half ago) I woke up and my ankle hurt pretty bad...Which I thought was odd since I normally can't feel a thing...lol...Anyways, went to the clinic and after x-rays, we found out it wasn't broken, just severly sprained..So I was held up for that...Still have no clue as to how it happened or how I did it...It is better now and I'm walking as good as can be expected...:D
Then last weekend I woke up bloated...and I don't mean swollen in the feet or legs...My stomach blown up to the point where I looked 8 months pregnant...lol..My stomach was so tight...Went to the doctor again since I didn't think this was a normal thing...and found out that I gained 18 pounds in less then two weeks...OMG!...Anyways, they raised the amount of my water pill to try and get rid of the water...Yesterday I went back in and lost 8 pounds, which is great, but I am still huge...They ran a blood test for the Creanitine in my system...and it was super high..2.5 Now I just had blood work done last week and it was 2.0 Which was high then already...Normal range is .7 - 1.3 Now for the ones of you that don't know what Creanitine is...
Creatinine is mainly filtered by the kidney, though a small amount is actively secreted. There is little-to-no tubular reabsorption of creatinine. If the filtering of the kidney is deficient, blood levels rise. As a result, creatinine levels in blood and urine may be used to calculate the creatinine clearance(ClCr), which reflects the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The GFR is clinically important because it is a measurement of renal function.
So this could be a sign that at least one of my kidneys is failing..I am now going to see a specialist for Dialysis...Not loking forward to it, but I'm hoping it helps...I will try to get on here when I can to say hi, and see what's going on with everyone...Sure miss this community...
...and if anyone has been on Dialysis or knows of anyone that had it, could you please share some info and let me know how it all works...I'd appreciate it...and I miss you all..:o((HUGS))...FONT]

I hate to hear all of this! I know this has got to be so over whelming to you. You have our love and prayers. I too know others who have been on dialysis. It is a huge adjustment but I know you can management it. Your such a strong lady! I communicate with a 15 year old girl, who was one of my students, and she too is on diaylsis. She does it daily from home. Funny thing, Isabel (her name) was just IMing me, as I was writing this post. She's a real sweet girl!

Sorry Michelle, not sure. I have a friend who had two brothers that were diabetic and eventually it affected their kidneys. Both needed dialysis, but I wasn't around (don't live near them) to know exactly what took place.

I don't know a lot about it, Wolvsie, but I know is a machine that they hook you up to, and it filters your blood. Get's all the junk out. It's like getting an oil change.

Hi Sweetie,
There are 2 basic types........... one is paritenal and the other is hemo. The hemo is usually done 3 times aweek at a clinic and usually takes about 4-6 hrs. The paritenal can be done at home but usally at night (10 hrs) while your sleeping. They say it is more gental but and it requires a lot more of you time and restricts you more, as far as having a life outside of the house, where as the hemo allows you 4 days a week off with more food and liquid restrictions. Both require a machine and both are filtering the toxins from the kidneys. The student I had is on paritenal and hopes to remain on it until she gets a kidney. It's so involved to explain. I honestly don't know which one I would prefer over the other. I do know that both can be good but not everyone is a good candidate for both.
I hope this helps a little! Nothing can prepare you for these life changing events but I do know that they do have great support groups out there.

I do know my friends one brother that lives in Texas was on the type that was only for 3 days, because he was able to come home for a wedding, but could only stay a couple of days. He has had a transplant since then.

Hi Shell,
I Pm'd ya about it...Mikki said if you can get HEMO...GO FOR it..it don't require surgery where as she's had peritoneal which DOES require surgery and the tubes are HUGE..they are sewn into you so they don't/can't move and hurt like HE*L when they get yanked or pulled:( Hemo cleans your blood OUTSIDE of your body and Peritoneal cleans it INSIDE.

Ok well here is what we have found out so far...Mr "Doogie Howser" was sure nice and sounds to know what he is talking about...One thing he can't change too much of is my meds...I have to take some for the heart which hurts the kidneys...I also have to take some for the kidneys but can hurt the heart...Story of my life...lol...After him going through stacks and stacks of my medical records...lol, we are doing a ultrasound on the kidneys first...Right now, he believes that my renal arteries are both blocked...Which could be the reason for the high numbers, because with them blocked the bad protein is not leaving my system...Dialysis was mentioned, but we are hoping that would be a last resort thing...We are taking one thing at a time until he gets the tests back from the ultrasound...I go next week for this..So keep your fingers crossed...<wink>
Thanks for all your sweet thoughts and prayers...I am gonna need them this time...
I need these kidneys fixed so I can get my heart operated on to open that blockage before it gets worse, and have another MRI done to find out what the spots on my brain are...UGH...
Always something...LOL...
Love ya guys!!!

Hi,
I used to do van transport for our local EMS...so I ended up spending a lot of time in dialysis clinics and meeting many patients. If the doctors allow it, learn how to do it on your own at home - if the doctors say you have to go to the clinic...do it girl! You do what it takes to get you healthy!!

Trick or treat? Well, I swear it is nothing more then tricks for me..No treats for awhile....I talked to PkDoll and Steve the other day and figured I'd better get on here and say hi...So much going on right now, I it will take me forever to read everything...lol...First off I want to say thanks to all my good friends on here...Sure makes my day when I can inch out a smile from one of Granny's jokes, or Crops sarcasm...etc...All of you are great...and very helpful through the rough times...
As you know I went through some ultrasound tests for the kidneys...Results are back, but unfortunately, they want to discuss these with the radiologist some more before talking them over with me...I don't know if this is good news or bad news..lol...We will cross our fingers and see...*biting nails until my fingers fall off*..:D
I also went to the doctor last Thursday cause my legs were hurting so bad in the calves...OMG!!! I have a high tolerance for pain, but this was bad...You couldn't even touch them or I would be hanging from the ceiling like a cat...! My feet are going numb more often and I even started to get little dark splotches by the toes and top of the foot..I know this isn't good...After the doc checked things over, he thinks I need to go on Cymbalta...Which is mainly used as an anti-depressant..Now mind anyone on this pill who needs it, I'm not trying to offend you..But why would I need this pill? I am not depressed!!!!!! Maybe I should be...lmao..but I'm not...There is a percentage of patients that have Diabetic Neuropathy that benfits from this pill...Maybe so...But I don't feel I need it after seeing all the side effects and possible other damages that could happen...So I went and got a second opinion today and he even agrees it will help...Ok, now that brings my total of meds to 30 a day and 5 shots a day of insulin...UGH...
That's not even the bad part...lol...YUP, there's more...Tomorrow, I have to go in for an EMG test...They will poke these needles into different areas of the leg muscles to see how much nerve damage is done...Doesn't sound fun..but Paula reassured me it doesn't hurt as much as it sounds...lol...We will see...and she promised me I could hunt her husband down if he lied...lol...Anyways, that is the scoop on me...
Remember it could be worse...<wink> and that keeps me going...I will try to get on here as much as I can...In the meantime, everyone else stay in good health and I will talk to you all soon...Love ya all...and thanks again for being there...
((HUGS)) :D

Crops and Granny, you are too funny..LOL...I think we should all try to catch eye and keep her in the dungeon until her "love" sickness goes away...lol...
Had my EMG test done yesterday and it came back that I have Signficant Nerve Damage in both legs from the Diabetic Neuropathy...Nothing can be done to reverse it either...He said the numbing will always be there, and there is only a couple things they can do to help with the pain in my legs...I also had a small amount of nerve damage in my hands as well...The test didn't hurt too bad, since most of the places he poked the needles in were numb anyways...lol...So that was a good thing...
I also heard from the Kindey specialist and I won't know the whole story until I see him next Wed...but for now, the nurse did tell me that I have a blockage in a small area and might be corrected by more meds...For now, I am taking that as good news until I hear otherwise...
I woke up yesterday morning and noticed something odd...I am bruising all over...I am showing one of the pics that I took...location is on my lower stomach..and I have more on my thighs and under the arms...Don't have a clue as how I got them...which really ticks me off...I keep a journal on my days spent for my doctors and my own personal reasons...(memory..lol...or should I say the lack of..I am writing notes to remind me to do things and now I'm at the point I am writing notes to remember where I wrote the reminder...lol) too funny..Anyways...I also have to give up bowling due to my legs...Really sucks...
I am not one to vent here, but I am at the point of feeling so helpless, that I get that "I'm mad at myself" attitude for not being able to do things...and making my kids do everything I can't, makes me feel worse...I miss doing laundry, cleaning and all of my regular day activities...Might not sound like fun to you all, but to me, without being able to work, was all I had left to do to keep me busy...I can't even sit at the computer as long as I used too...UGH..So if anyone knows on how I can make this Neuropathy better, please let me know...All help will be welcomed...<wink> Love ya guys...
OOOooo that looks awful. Is your blood too thin.I wish I could change places with you.I have been so happy with my life and it is shame that I cannot share it with you.I hope God is listening and that your test is good news.I luv you for your strength and your humour. You are tops.:)

Wish I knew more about neuropathy myself. My mom and sister both have it. My Uncle had it real bad. Before he passed, He couldn't walk or hold anything in his hands, so it appears to run in the family and my feet bother me as well but not to their point. My mom's feet are very sensitive, she screams out if she barely bumps them.
You have more than your share of medical issues, I feel so bad for you. I hope you get good news from your kidney test.
Granny
11-05-2008, 10:05 AM
Ah, Wolvsie, sorry to hear this. Don't know much about that Neuropathy, but I know one thing.... Don't feel bad about the boys doing things for you. First of all, they are part of a family, and this will teach them to think of others, not just their own needs. It also gives them an opportunity to give back to someone who not only gave them life, but has taken care of them for many, many years. I hate the way some parents treat their kids like they owe them every things and should never ask for any thing from them. That is why kids today are such a bunch of self-centered, ungrateful, disrespecful bunch of useless nuts. If you don't believe me, turn on the news!
So, sit back, let them help, enjoy the ride, and focus on getting better. You will all be better people at the end for doing it. Also, get yourself some books on tape and some mp3 software that will allow you to record messages. If you can't type here, we can still enjoy your voice. just look for alternatives to what you have been doing.
And don't you dare give up. Don't make me come over there and beat some sense into you.
Love ya,
Grammushka!

Well everyone...It wasn't the best of news...They only found little blockages in in the vessels and not in the main Renal Arteries...So that means my kidneys are very bad....I am now making steps to get my numbers under control for Dialysis...Won't be starting soon, but they need to get this going to keep what I have left of my kidneys functioning...The family was not happy with this, but my spirits remain high for now...I just started some new meds, and also have to drink some nasty stuff to try and keep my potassium at a normal level...It is so gross...UGH...They are thinking by early next year we will get started...I was told this is a long process...
Just wanted to let eveyrone know....

As far as the transplant goes, right now it is not even a possibility...My heart couldn't handle the surgery for one, and second, I would need a pancreas transplant as well...So we are going to try and keep what I got working as good as it can without running them down more...Time will tell I guess...

Hi everyone....Things aren't looking so good for now...AGAIN...
Went to the doctor yesterday...They put me on a LOW Potassium Diet..Mixed with my diabetic diet and heart diet, this isn't going to be fun...Just give me some sugar free jello and popsicles, and leave me be...lol...
Then I found out some disturbing news...Remember when I went in for the Kidney Ultrasound, well they found a pumpkin shape mass on the x-rays and over looked it until now...I am still so bloated (gained 19 pounds in almost 4 weeks now)...They mentioned this mass to me yesterday!!!!!! and said it could be cancerous....I am now waiting until they call me back...I will be scheduled to have a CAT Scan soon to find out more..But they are assuming this could be the cause of why I don't go to the bathroom much...I will keep you all informed...
Granny, please don't throw me back in the dungeon yet..lol...I have to get through all this first...hehehe...Love ya all...:D

Granny...bless your soul...lol...
That suite sounds wonderful...WOW...and thanks EYE...<wink> A couple things...No chocolate...Diabetic here, and that is the last thing I need...Besides, I don't want you tempted to eat it either when you visit...lol...I do hope there is a good pair of thick curtains on that big window...I don't know if my heart can handle that view of Steve dipping all the time...HAHAHA...:D
I am ok for now...No news yet, and I never give up...It has been one thing after the next for 26 years now...So it just seems like a normal routine thing for me anyways...lol...I am keeping a possitive attitude and just praying they find out what is wrong with me...That would soothe me more then finding out what the problem actually is...One week it is this then the next week they think it is this...I know I am a hard patient to figure out..BUT COME ON!!!!!! LOL....Love you all...and thanks for all your concern...Means alot to me ya know...((HUGS)):o
Oh Michelle this is why I think you are so special. You are so kind, brave, sweet, lovable, generous, caring, strong,wi tty, soft, smart, great mother and great friend to many of us.I just wished God would make you all better.I am your friend and all I can give is prayers.GOD BLESS YOU:)

Thanks everyone...Eye, you might over do when it comes to me, but I still love ya...<wink> Granny, thanks for the sugar free chocolate...Does this mean you can have some too? :D Sure would love to share all this with someone..and Eye is hyper enough..lol...and Steve, give me your dipping schedule...hehehe...All of you are so sweet...
I have read many threads where people are needing prayers...and that's why I said, things could always be worse right now...I can still walk (well kind of..lol), smell the air, watch my kids be goofballs and tell my friends and family how much I love them...So what more can one ask for, right? Maybe a couple extra bucks here and there...lol..but for now, I pray for everyone else who is going through so much turmoil as well...'Cause there is many of us out there...<wink>
