Skylar May was born at 12:10 on Friday, August 22, 8 pounds, 9 ounces and 20 inches. But it was a bit scary and I thought of you all during that. I knew if I could get to a computer, the prayers would be coming our way, unfortunately, a computer was the least of my worries at the time.
Stephanie had been having contractions since early Wednesday morning and Chris took her to the hospital around 2 am Friday morning. She was completely effaced and dilated 1 cm. By 3:30, she was up to between 3 and 4 cm, so they decided to admit her and our son called us. We got there as they were putting the epidural in. She had thought about trying to have her without the epidural, but she had been hurting since early Wednesday morning and just wanted some relief and some sleep.
When they started the epidural, her blood pressure started dropping. They were giving her ephedrine to raise the pressure. While they were doing the epidural, her water broke and it was meconium stained. They couldn't get her BP any higher than 80/40, but they were not telling us at the time. Well, the epidural literally all but stopped the contractions and at around 10:30, she was only around 5 cm, but the contractions weren't doing anything, the BP was still down, and the meds they were giving her for the BP was raising the baby's heart rate to the 180 range. About 15 minutes before that, they had told my son that he could go feed his dogs because she had several hours to go. When he got back, he saw alot of stressed out faces (our daughter was also there) and when he saw Stephanie she had an O2 mask on and they handed him a scrub suit to put on; he had no idea what was going on.
Thank God, they got the baby out, but put a big scratch on her head and a huge bruise where they used a suction tool to extract her. She also has the internal fetal monitor small wound. And of course, she has fine blond down, hardly looks like she even has any hair. But she is here and is beautiful! She came home this evening. I have been there practically non stop. My son has to go to work tomorrow, so I am going over just to help her out till he gets home. Pictures will be coming later, I just need to get some rest now myself.
