My computer is in the shop

Hi all, my computer is in the shop. I can not access the internet. I am on my mom's computer right now. Just wanted to let you all know why I am not around (If you missed me). Don't know how long it with take, but the maximum is suppose to be 5 days. The faster way would have been to just let them dump everything. But I am trying to salvadge if I can. I copied most everything out, but there were some things I couldn't and my softerware for my scanner would be lost, but my disc is cracked. I lost it once before an had to scour the internet. I found a partial download for it. Enough for it to run, but they didn't have the entire package. So I would hate to lose that again. Plus all my email addresses. I have some printed out. But not that many.

Anyway, It will be at least a few days. If they end up having to dump everything anyway, then I will have to go through reloading everything again.

Curious...this happended after we got spammed here. I was fine before that. ??? Anyone else having problems??

If you're referring to the Personal Message spam of a few days ago ... no, that definitely didn't cause your computer troubles. While email spam can (specifically emails containing viruses, etc), forum spam can not (no more than any other text-based website).

I just put all pics on CD...i have 2 computers and the family pc is the one that had 5 yrs worth of pics i stressed out about all the time. I finally got one of those 8gb san disc things and downloaded everything on that and put it here on my lap top under D drive (back up) then put it on cd. really only pics as those are just the worst thing i can think about losing.

Thankfully you have those, which is the most important.

I'm having trouble with my SD drive for downloading pics and i still have warranty but the thought of sending my pc to dell for 2 weeks gives me hives. I'm such an addict that i freak at the thought. Maybe i'll send it when im on vacation!

Thanks everyone. And thanks Desmond, I really didn't think that did it, it was just quite a co-incidence. So far they think my motherboard is bad and they have to send it in. Which means I will be without a computer for 2 to 4 weeks :( (twiddling thumbs looking for something to do) eeek...The H word! and we are putting up a fence at my mother-in-laws. Then we are doing a deck at my house. So I guess I will have things to keep me busy. But I sure do miss being on here!

Well, I will try to check in once in a while (on my mom's computer).

Hi all. Boy has this been awful not being able to come in here and check out what is going on! I am still waiting.... I am on my mom's computer for a minute again. To top it off, my hubby's aunt died. He had to take his mom to Illinois for the funeral. (He didn't know this aunt, he thinks he only met her one time and he was little and doesn't remember her)

He should be back this afternoon, but he has been gone for 4 nights and I didn't have a computer to spend my time on!!! Can you believe it. What terrible timing. I didn't go to the funeral because we didn't want to leave my mom by her self with no one to call if she fell. She has been falling a lot lately so we didn't want to take a chance.

I will have a lot of catching up to do when I get my computer back. Hopefully I won't have to reload everything first.

Hope everyone is ok. I don't have enough time to check out all the posts right now. Will try to check in another day. Maybe I will go to the library. Their computer's are a lot faster than my moms. This one is soooooo pokey! She has a standard land line. I am used to cable (so spoiled).

Well it looks like I am back up and running finally! I got a call this morning saying the computer was ready. We went and picked it up, but we had to work on my mother-in-laws fence some more. (All most done). I thought I was going to have to re-install everything, but I guess I got lucky...YIPPIE! Now I have a lot of catching up to do!

Sorry to hear your problems. I am having some issues as well but I'm not sure what the spam issue was here. Can someone enlighten me on that?
