Well, I was instructed to start using Firefox at work. So, now I'm trying to use it at home too! I changed my default from Internet Explorer to Firefox. Now I'm having problems!

The problem I am having is with saving files that I get from everyone here. It does not give me the option to save files to where I want them to go. In the past, I would change the extension for .smb to a zip file, then save and extract, then put it where I want it to go. I did not want all the .smb files to go into the embellisment file. It lags me down..... I save them so they will go into my external drive. Maybe someone can give me some help on how to manage my files using Firefox!

Here's the quick fix for you.

On your top toolbar, select "Tools".
From the dropdown menu, select "Options"
You will then see a box that shows how Firefox is set up for you.
Click on "Main" - the first icon and under that tab you will see.
Startup Options - i.e. Your homepage settings
Downloads - This is the section that governs how Mozilla handles your downloaded files.
Tick the box that says "Show the downloads window when downloading files".
Select the radial button for "Save file To" and browse your hard drive or external drive and set up a specific location for Firefox to use as the download file.
Lastly, select "Apply", shut down Firefox and restart it and download a file as a test file to make sure your changes have taken effect.

Managing your files.

It is helpful under your specified download folder to set up different folders for different things. For example your SBMax downloads or downloaded kits by the name of the person who created them. That way you can go back later and sort through everything and refile the files where you decide they should finally live.

I do this often or else I end up in a pickle. This for me is the easiest way I find of managing my downloads and files. I have been using Firefox for a few years now and will not go back to IExplorer, it is too unstable.

I have also added to my toolbars a toolbar called Crawler (http://www.crawler.com/) that provides excellent security whilst surfing. If a website is dangerous - i.e. has a lot of spam, pfishing, pornography, it alerts you before you enter the site and it waits for permission from you before opening the pages.

Good Luck

I use Firefox and Winzip together and it works perfectly for me for speed and arrangement. :) For us that always dl big file size like scrapbook kits and emb. A zip software will be 'handly' to manage for us.

I have the strangest Firefox question - I've used it for years and love it! Just lately it had an update - now every time I open Firefox it has a screen that says I just uploaded Firefox and I have to close it. Anyone else run into this? Thx!

Yes, you can have both. I use Firefox all the time but occasionally I have to switch over to IE because a site won't open using Firefox. This however, happens very rarely. :) Don't be afraid to change. GO FOR IT! ;)

I use both too. For the same reasons. Occasionaly firefox won't open a site so I go to internet explorer. But otherwise no problems using both.
